[history]
The Bush administration's new budget includes a $1.2 billion, 30-year loan to renovate the aging United Nations headquarters and build a new annex, although U.N. officials expressed disappointment that Washington will charge interest on the loan.
The loan was part of a $31.5 billion foreign-operations budget request released Monday that also includes major new funding for the fight against AIDS and a revamped U.S. foreign-aid program targeting poor countries that implement political and social reforms.

It's a loan, to be paid back with interest... It's OUR money.
You want to loan the UN your money?
Have at it...
But you can keep your fingers out of rest of our pockets.. thanks just the same.
The Constitution of the United States does not empower the President or the Congress to act as an international lending institution.

Instead of a loan, could we just give them one-way tickets to somewhere in Europe?

Uh no, you make them look foolish by them whining to have pay back the loan with interest, which they are doing.Right! So we should make them look twice as foolish by having them owe us twice as much!
STRATEGERY, man!

I think you're hostile because you just haven't fully accepted George yet. George has a plan for your life.
OMG, this could be the funniest thing I have ever ready.
ROTFLMAO!!!

So? Your point is? My point is that the UN looks foolish for whining about repaying the loan with interest.
But you would rather focus on other things. I will focus on the UN temper tantrum, instead of turning off people to my side of the debate, by having my own temper tantrum.

No doubt... why stop at $1.2 billion? Bush has plenty of tax money to play with. If giving loans to those who are trying to dismantle the US is now "conservative", maybe we should see if one of those nice Islam-"religion of peace" groups needs a loan for a new Mosque?

Although I do think the Energizer Bunny is moderately amusing.

I'm merely pointing out that the UN's idea is to cancel our Constitution, or is that okay with you?

A little hostile today, aren't we?
I don't let my disgust with the U.N. cloud reality. If the U.N. was not given credibility by many nations on this planet, I would say pull out and let it go belly up. Sadly it is given credibility (although very misplaced) and will continue to exist whether or not the U.S. is a member.
Oh, and I do not believe that the U.N. is out to conquer the world. I don't go so far out as to need to wear full body armor made of tin foil.
Don't mistake my comments as support for the U.N. While the idea of a organization for nations to meet and discuss issues in and of itself wasn't a bad idea, like many seemingly good ideas, it went right down into the sewer. Now it is a organization for socialists, communists, and two-bit dictators to whine about how evil the U.S. and some other Western nations are.
There is no guarantee that this will pass Congress and that the U.N. will accept it. In the end they'll whine about it and the issue will die.
Also, it seems a lot of people here think that Bush writes the budget and it becomes law without ever having to go through Congress. Mark my words, when Congress passes ITS budget, it will look very different than what the President submitted. Instead of b*tching @ Bush for overspending, ya'll can blame Congress for piling on the Pork.
The level of childishness on this forum is getting closer to D.U. every day. It is one thing to disagree but more and more people are sinking down into personal attacks and very childish behavior.

I don't agree with your position, but that post is funny.

Hey now! Bush is funding them to do it, so it must be the "conservative" thing to do.

Instead of b*tching @ Bush for overspending, ya'll can blame Congress for piling on the Pork. Who signed the spending Bill? Who has the veto power? Blame? Plenty to go around by the old standard. But the final blame is always the guy who implements the orders.
Of course, under the NEW regime here at FR, this kind of "conservatism" is a good thing because Bush did it. So get on board. If Bush is giving more money to the UN then it is a "good thing".
