MARKET BLAST KILLS WOMAN
A woman has been killed and 10 police cadets injured in a car bomb attack in southern Russia.
The device exploded outside a bank in Vladikavkaz, ripping apart a number of vehicles.
Police said it exploded as a truck carrying police cadets passed by and described it as "a terrorist act".
"Ten people are injured, the driver of the truck and one of the cadets are in a very serious condition," said a spokesman.
"One woman who was walking past was killed.
"This is definitely a terrorist act, there were at least five kilos of explosive in the car, and probably more."
The identity of the attackers is not yet known But the region is often targeted by guerrillas from the nearby breakaway republic of Chechnya.
A bombing in Vladikavkaz's central market in 1999 killed 55 people and wounded 168.
Four men were convicted and given sentences up to life in prison for the bombing. The group was also implicated in a May 1999 bombing at a military outpost that killed four and injured 17 and a June 1999 blast in Vladikavkaz that injured 17 and the abduction of three Russian soldiers.
