What I quetion is a literal interpretation of Genesis to indicate that snakes are evil and have no limbs becasue God cursed them.

Where do you get that ? In fact the opposite is true. God created the land animals and saw that it was good.

I admire your desire to "unify" the Christian Creationist and Christian Evolutionist using the "metaphorical/literal" approach, but I sincerely doubt that is possible. I tried it myself a few years ago, and no matter how you go, one way or the other, a particular verse will be EITHER literal OR metaphorical. There simply isn't any way to get blood from that stone.
