Georgetown Pro-Life Students Incredulous Over Use of Aborted Baby Cell Lines [Petition Launched]
LifeSite.net ^ | Monday February 2, 2004

WASHINGTON, DC, February 2, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Georgetown University Right to Life, the official pro-life club of the Catholic University, was incredulous that their Catholic school was using cell lines from aborted babies and found it even more unbelievable that the university would continue to use the cell lines after the research was recently publicly exposed.

In related news, Children of God for Life, the pro-life group which initially discovered Georgetown's unethical research and brought it to the attention of Washington Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, has launched an online petition to stop the university's use of aborted fetal cell lines. They request that signers go to: http://www.cogforlife.org/georgetownpeti tion.htm

Laura Peirson, President of Georgetown University Right to Life, told LifeSiteNews.com today, "I was very surprised when I found out about it." Referring to the initial report that Cardinal McCarrick had seemingly put an end to the controversial research, she said, "it seemed that things had been pretty much resolved after the first story came out." She described her reaction to the university's decision to continue the research saying, "I was very disappointed that Georgetown as a Catholic institution was compromising on this issue."

"I understand the great temptations of health benefit potentials, grants and needing researchers, but the ends do not justify the means," she said. "This creates in people's minds some kind of justification for abortion, seeing it has some sort of positive outcome."

The pro-life student group's board is meeting tonight to discuss its strategy on the matter.

Pro-Life Friends,

The only reason this is gaining Momentum is because of the many GREAT Pro-Life Freepers who signed the petition. YOU GOT THIS BALL ROLLING. It IS picking up speed! May God bless each and every one of you.

To those just seeing this news, please sign the Petition to Georgetown University: Stop Aborted Fetal Cell Line Research

In closing I have to say that whatever the outcome of this, Freepers are the Greatest, and are True Patriots--spoken of by the man who wrote the following:

"In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot." ~Mark Twain, Notebook, 1935

Please let me know if you want on or off my Pro-Life Ping List.

"I understand the great temptations of health benefit potentials, grants and needing researchers,
but the ends do not justify the means," she said.

We all learned that at Jesuit institutions in days gone by
(when the Society of Jesus was still a "Catholic" order).
Ignatius, where have they gone?

Yep, could they at least provide a grave of some sort for those lost lambs before using their bodies. Frankly, I have nothing against organ usage so long as dignity and respect is maintained..... but, then again, even so, my point of view is that the foetus tissue research should only be earmarked to benefit innocent children like them by law, and not monster hollywood freaks or Michael Jacksons sickly seeking longevity cures.

The primary Catholic responsibility for aborted remains is spiritual and sacramental. A memorial Mass should be said for the victims (and prayers offered for the mothers). And whatever is left should be buried.

What you have here, unfortunately and tragically, is the Frankenstein situation of continuing to breed cells which derive from abortions. The aborted victims were not asked to donate their bodies for research (obviously impossible) so this is grossly immoral and wrong. It should be illegal to use anyone's body for scientific research who did not sign a consent form for donation. By the way, this phenomenon of allowing Motor Vehicles Administrations to handle organ donation issues is wacko.
