DISCIPLINE NOT ONLY IN SCHOOLS BUT IN SOCIETY

Posted on 02/03/2004 10:40:00 AM PST by 7thson

No reason ever for teachers to hit any of their students

I was following the threads from the post above and was reminded of the shooting at Ballou High School in Southeast DC yesterday morning. On the way home from work yesterday afternoon, listening to the radio, I heard the rantings and ravings of students, parents, and – of course – Marion Barry, on how more needs to be done to protect the students.

Somehow, the above thread is connected to this story. If more discipline and respect were administered by the parents, would something like this happen?

On another note, when I listened to those ranting on the radio on how they are not being protected, none of them could correctly speak the English language. Including Barry! And once again, it was do something for us. My wife said that they need to take the streets back from the gangsters. I replied that you cannot take something back that you never earned to possess. The police know who the criminals are and where they hang out. The residents know this also. Nothing is done to remove these individuals from society. Until the residents of these urban battlegrounds learn that they have to stand up for themselves first and foremost, they will never be safe or free.

"....on how more needs to be done to protect the students."

Okay, let's see if I can stir things up a bit! First and foremost, let's get the students out of the "Hip Hop", "Gothic", or "Hillbilly" garb and put them in either (1) UNIFORMS OR (2) APPROPRIATE COATS AND TIES (for male students) AND DRESSES (for female students). Let's get the focus on learning again and get away from the daily fashion shows at school. I know, I know, God forbid, that we should take away their RIGHT to free expression! As far as I am concerned, attending public schools is a PRIVILEGE afforded to students by the tax-paying public; these students don't have any rights YET. They are of "MINORITY AGE"! When they are of "MAJORITY AGE" then their parents and school boards can tell them they can wear what they wish.....Oh! and good luck finding a job!

I can understand your frustration, but I am afraid to say there is very little that can be done. Here's why:

1) Kids are no longer being taught the difference between right and wrong through discipline, or about the sanctity of human life thanks mostly because of abortion, "assisted suicide (read: euthanasia)", etc.

2) Within Washington DC, private handgun ownership has been outright banned. Unfortunately, that message has not gotten to the criminals, which is why the murder rate per capita is so high every year.

3) Any reasonable attempt to clear the thugs from the streets will be met by opposition from civil libertarians, especially the ACLU, and activist bleeding heart judges, who believe criminals have the right to make you feel unsafe, even in your own home.

The absolute best thing you can do is create a grass roots movement to get any and all gun control laws in DC repealed. If current councilpeople don't want to do that, get them replaced with those that do. It is a known fact criminals are more afraid of the armed citizen than of the police. That's why crime rates have gone down in every state that has passed a concealed weapons law.

But if the people make it clear they prefer the staus quo, however, then move to Texas.

Better yet, let parents choose the schools their children attend using vouchers.

We also have a tendency to make them wear uniforms down here too, at least in the lower grades. Nothing terrible, just polo shirts and khakis.

Thankfully, I do not live in the district. I live in Maryland - I know, I know - the Peoples Republic of Maryland. While gun ownership is arduous it is still legal. However, the only poeple who want to have concealed carry in the District are the Congress critters who run the show. I doubt you can find anybody in political power in the district that would favor private citizens owning guns. With that said, it has amazed me for years why the people do not raise up and cast out the criminals in their midst. How can you expect other countries to be free when certain parts and citizens of our own country voluntarily remain in bondage to the government?
