Let's all give it a rest. I found this release this morning. Per Janet, "The whole thing was a carefully planned and rehearsed mistake. Justin was supposed to expose my left breast. It was intended to send a message that women are abused in the entertainment world and my brother Michael has never touched a boob. Please buy my new CD and video."

I'm gonna show my support by buying the CD and Video today!

"... there can be no doubt that Janet Jackson’s breast’s 15 seconds of fame were scripted (oh, yes, that and the fact she just happened to have 'jewelry' on her nipple—don’t we all just in case?)."

I finally watch her reaction and having been in the position of being inadvertantly exposed one time, a woman's first reaction (and a quick one at that) is to COVER YOUR BREAST with your HANDS. She didn't.

This picture you posted says it all! The focus on Janet's breast has been misplaced. Before that was even shown during the show, I was saying to my husband that the whole thing looked like a descent into hell. I guess I'm glad about the breast if that was what it took to call attention to the whole thing. It would have been sad if without the breast, the public would have let the rest of it pass as "normal." The crotch, grabbing, the flag-wearing, the simulated sex--all much worse.

Agreed. Predictable responses. Someone who concocted this show is laughing. Tempest in a D cup!

I guess posting you responses in Haiku form makes conservatives look like rational, sane people?

Lets see, $27,500 times the number of CBS affiliates who carried the halftime show..... man, that could add up to REAL money.

Mine to the head of the FCC bounced too, so I re-sent it to one of his underlings. I assume the volume of mail is more than they can handle, but we shouldn't give up. Keep re-sending until you get through!! They need to get an overwhelming message, bigger than ever before.

On a more ambivalent note, I was just reading an article in the Hillsdale Imprimis about how the FCC is unconstitutional. But my mothering instincts are taking over in this case. I'm not asking for outright censorship--just truth in advertising!!! That Super Bowl should have been rated MA Mature Audiences only.

I think there were 200 affiliates. If so, if each paid $27,500.00 that would come to $5,500,000. A drop in the bucket compared to what they raked in.

I will. How far down the list did you have to go? My email to the complaint address, and one to Mr. Powell bounced back.

When my email to Chairman Powell didn't get through, I sent it to Commissioner Abernathy via the following link:

http://www.fcc.gov/contacts.html

My email to Ms. Abernathy got through. When I have time later, I'll probaby email the whole FCC list to drive home the point.

Did a little research after your comment and found 225 "stations". So that would be $6.1 million - what about a 30 second spot?

Your right a drop in the bucket. Still, in my opinion required to send a message. I also understand the fine is going up by a factor of 10. That might give the next halftime show pause.

Worse yet, FCC could require a 10 sec tape delay on all live shows. That would give the controllers more time to cut away. Why show trash if no one is going to see it?

I wonder how many people would pay for Mtv if it was a premium channel? It should be.
