"The gay community is very large in NYC, what you have him do? Not serve his constituents? I'm not a big fan of identity politics, but that's the way it goes."

True and that's the point. New York City, fortunately, does not represent the U.S. An individual like Giuliani would have to redefine his posutre on any number of issues to become attractive to me and most other Republicans. Anything is possible I suppose, but not likely.

"Snatch your gun? You want home defense buy a rifle- they're still legal in NYC. Carry permits are another story."

Carry permits ARE another story - in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland and a few other states which are out of step with the majority of American states on this issue. Even the facts of concenaled carry and its positive merits have escaped them. Another reason Giuliani is unsuitable and unpalatable. By the way, Giuliani is on RECORD as stating he believes in national gun registration and a national qualifying test to own a gun. Even by northeastern limousine liberal Republican standards, he is extreme.

"Street Vendors? Last I checked you can't throw a dead cat without hitting a Sabrettes stand."

He's not mayor anymore. Its my understanding that Giuliani had all the street vendors in New York City put out of business because the restaurants in the city - which charge an arm and a leg - were complaining that they took business away from the. From having worked on the streets of New York I know how important it is to be able to get a quick cheap bite to eat.

And, by the way, Napoleon was Italian - he was from Corsica and Corsicans are Italian by ethnicity. His real name was Napoleone Buonorati - or something like that It was Gallicized to Napoleon Bonaparte. (You don't seriously think a Frenchman had the brains and guts to almost conquer the entire world, do you? A megalomaniac perhaps, but a megalomaniac with class.)

Big, aging east coast cities full of newcomers are not going to give up their social services.

Particularly when Republicans in power keep increasing them and giving them new entitlements.

I'm not interested in long term goals.

So you admit you are only interested in power. At least you are honest.

"New York City just hasn't been the same since Cardinal Spellman died." -- nostalgic lament by a middle-aged Jewish New Yorker. LOL!

Honest and cynical. I foolishly believe that 'Pubs have a better chance at turning this country around while in office.

Like it or not, this country will never go back to the good old days of a patriarchal society which adheres to Republican values. The post industrial age has nearly destroyed the family. The family is the basis of society.

I agree with you on one thing, they have a better chance. Democrats have a 1% chance and Republicans have a 2% chance.

And you thought you were cynical?

Now that we have a single party who differs (between factions) on scope and details but not fundamental philosophy, the time is right for a second party, who might actually have a chance of saving the experiment before a war breaks out.

Thats what we have now. A new party which is philosphically apart from them is needed.
