February 3, 2004 -- CBS is moving to bounce Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake from next Sunday's Grammy Awards amid the national uproar following their X-rated, prime-time Super Bowl stunt. Sources told The Post the network will demand the two stars be tossed from 46th Annual Grammy Awards if CBS's probe shows the duo schemed in advance to expose Jackson's pierced breast during the halftime spectacle.

"27K? I've read it's going to be in the millions"

AFAIK, the fine is $27,500 per affiliate which comes to about 5 mil.

For a company like Viacom, $5 mil is nothing.

For a company like Viacom, $5 mil is nothing.

For CBS, which owns 34 stations like WCBS in New York, or KCBS in Los Angeles, $27,500 is nothing. Viacom owns 16 stations nationwide, even if they're not CBS affiliates, they'll pony up the small pocket change as well.

And the liberals think Clear Channel is trying to conquer the world!

Ironically, Cheap Channel is the company most likely to take over the halftime show for next year (at least at this stage, given their promotional and concert business).

Which is why I wish the NFL would ban Viacom/CBS/Showtime/etc. from ever hosting another NFL venue.

Its an appropriate punishment for these repeat offenders and it sends a message to the other networks - the smut stops now.

A wringer. That's what Viacom's t-- is caught in...

I'm sure that MTV's bosses' heads are being smacked resoundingly.

This week was the last time CBS was scheduled to carry the Super Bowl before the next broadcast contract negotiation session. I'm sure this didn't help them much in trying to keep not only the Super Bowl, but the AFC contract overall.

Just damn.

If you want on the list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...

AOL Sign Up Disks were being displayed in the local Post Office yesterday.

Those AOL disks had the United States Postal Service Logo on them, new to me perhaps others have seen them.

Ten years ago, after buying my first PC, AOL was my first ISP. It did not take long to see their liberal slant in how their system operated.

To find the Fishing, Hunting or Guns forums was difficult. To find Gay, Lesbian or Liberal Media very easy.

AOL like many others, knew SEX SELLS. It sounds like they are still using that same premise today, but they have moved it up town into the local post office and the Super Bowl.

The odd thing is that seeing part of Janet Jackson's bosom was NOT the most irritating thing about the halftime show. The J&J bit followed a rapper who very conspicuously and repeatedly grabbed his crotch.

Despite the newspaper's purple prose, the J&J bit was NOT "x-rated" -- following the standards set for the use of movie ratings, it would not have been x-rated even if Jackson's entire bosom had been exposed and without that valkyrie style metal whatsis. At worst it would have approached an r-rating, and still have been more modest than some of the outfits shown on the Oscars show.

The explanations and apologies also baffle me: Timberlake said it was a "wardrobe malfunction" - he was obviously supposed to pull half her blouse off and that metallic bra cup was put there for a reason, so where was the malfunction? JJ herself said it "wasn't supposed to go" as it did - same facts, same question.

I am willing to believe JJ's story that the stunt was not discussed or planned with the producers and was added on (her) whim after the last rehearsals (although this story sounds like she's falling on her sword to protect the network and sponsors) ... but even if the producers thought that she was going to come out on stage dressed in a nun's habit, why did they permit J&J to do a song with a lyric like "I'm going to undress you tonight"?

All in all, it looks like everyone, even the producers, intended to push the envelope and the performers did and got what they wanted for a stunt.

All that having been said, I still think this is a trifle. I notice that, within 24 hours, the FCC is revving up an "investigation" -- which I hope will lead to detailed, close-up photos of JJ's bosom, with and without the metal adornments. Odd how the federal govt springs into action to investigate JJ's hooters but we cannot get a straight answer, after more than a year, about Cheney's meetings with bigshots from energy companies (including Enron), or about George W using false reasons and phony evidence to launch a war. To which I can add recent revelations that a major Medicare bureaucrat and a Congressional Republican leader responsible for the new Medicare bill both getting extremely lucrative job offers from the pharmaceutical industry while they were backing the new Medicare law that inexcusably insulates the same industry from competition or investigation. If seeing Janet Jackson's softer parts gets more public outrage than what's been going on in the Bush Administration, we really are on our way to a decline and fall.

My friend, be careful with your loose remarks. The BBC just lost all its creditability mouthing the same garbage you are mouthing. I guess you would rather have Saddam Hussein still in power. The case is not yet closed, except for fools like you! Time will tell, and just as Tony Blair was cleared so will our President stand tall defending the United States! Go vote Democrat and seal your own doom. Your "Daniel Pearl" moment is approaching! Osama Bin Laden prays to Allah every day for a Democrat victory!

Thank you!!

Did you notice the S&M costuming, the 'jerk-off' choreography and the 'anal sex' grind-dance (what do they call that, anyway...)? The only surprise was how consistent and pervasive it was from start to finish.

It's just going to get worse.

Her record company took the opportunity to send out copies of her new single to radio stations.

Hmmm. Making a profit from someone's nudity. What's that called again? Oh yeah - pimpin'

"We attended all rehearsals of the show and there was no indication at any time that such an inappropriate display was contemplated."

Like the crotch grabbing, pantomime rear entry intercourse and overt sexual language didn't give them a clue.

This half time exposition was nothing more than a display of trash and self indulgent decadence even without the boob bait.

All the Washington bureaucrats need their feet held to the fire. Just like what is happening with CBS, MTV, Viacom, etc. I think it's fine and dandy that VP Cheney is having to justify his decision to keep his records of meetings with all sorts of private citizens private. There is legitimate reason for the SC to make a decision regarding executive privilege. I believe history is on Cheney's side. We'll see how the modern Court rules. They don't seem to care about history in their other rulings. Unless you consider current world opinion as history.

As for the Medicare bill, I don't have a problem with someone investigating that either.

All politicians deserve scrutiny. And the media/entertainment industry as well.

The commercial promos for the Grammys were almost as offensive as the half-time show. However, the outraged viewers of the half-time show generally do not watch the Grammys. Who does?

Removing JJ and Timberlake from the show will not take the lesbo-kissing Madonna/Brittney/Christine's from doing their thang, will it? It's been so long since I watched an awards show other than country music type shows. I have no idea what kinds of acts appear on the Grammys.

She said MTV, which produced the show, did not know about the boob surprise - and she apologized for the stunt, saying "it was not my intention that it go as far as it did."

So she wore a breakaway top with nothing underneath half of it, and she planned for something to happen, but not what did happen. What exactly did she have in mind?

What's it going to take for people to "get" that MTV is pushing the envelope over the cliff. Anyone know the boiling frog analogy. Here's further proof.

Oh, and I heard that a NYC radio station made yesterday Janet Jackson Day and played her tunes all the livelong day. Can someone explain this kind of kissing up to me?
