Next year's Superbowl will be held here in Jacksonville, FL. We are a very big small town, much more conservative than Houston.
Last night, representatives from Jacksonville were on hand in Houston to see what works and what doesn't in a host city.
Jacksonville's most famous musicans are "Lynyrd Skynyrd" who are mostly dead.
In the spirit of learning from someone else's ghastly mistake, please offer Freeper suggestions for the kind of entertainment that will increase enjoyment of the game.

How about a halftime where they tallk about the game, and other sports stories from the day, then get back to the football game? Like they do during football season? Or would that make too much sense?

My suggestion is no big halftime "extravagazna" at all, and start the second half fifteen minutes after the end of the first half like every other game during the season. These Super Bowls keep ending later and later every single year.

I don't care as long as they dispense with the crotch grabbing rappers that try to pass themselves off as entertainers....
I lean more to the patriotic and more home style entertainment that reflects my values....

I think it is traditional to try to invite "native sons" to perform. Beyonce is from Houston.
Other than Gloria Estefan (Miami), Tom Petty (Gainesville) and Jimmy Buffet (Miami) I can't think of any other Floridian musicians.
And Jacksonville is a funny town. We host a Jazz festival every year, but somehow, the whole smooth jazz- football connection eveades me...

Agreed. Why can't the NFL be highlighted - history, referee profiles, draft, team profiles, quiz audience on rules, 2 minutes with each coach before they go into the locker room, show past Superbowl clips of record-setting items, etc.

A triple powerhouse headliner featuring the Strawberry Alarm Clock, the Lemon Pipers, and the 5th Dimension. It could be called "A Tribute to Dennis Kucinich"

They should lose the halftime "entertainment". Show highlights from the season and playoffs. Anything but the infantile patronising drivel they come up with.

It will be cleaned up, but still trash, I fear.
