Is Howard Dean's Internet-based campaign another dot-com flameout?
The candidate whose fundraising success on the Web generated enough hype to anoint him the front-runner before a single vote was cast is now trying to revive his campaign. After losses in Iowa and New Hampshire, he has asked his staff to defer their pay, pulled his television ads and pushed aside his chief strategist, Internet aficionado Joe Trippi.

All the king's horses and all the king's men can not put humpty-Dean back together again. Probably. But he might yet become a Nader-style independent spoiler, maybe even in partnership with Nader. That could be interesting.

An interesting lesson in that article for some of the anti-Bush Conservatives on THIS site.
A candidate that would resonate with US may be too passionate and strident to do well outside of cyberspace.
Although I don't consider myself isolated, I do find myself angry with many policy decisions. I don't fool myself into thinking that I am a member of a mass movement, though. I've had too many arguments with friends and family.

you make a good point. do you think seniors are crying for change now that they hear the drug bill is going higher?
President Bush reportedly told a complaining congressman that he too wanted smaller government. maybe he decided to let the folks in congress, with the rope, hang themselves and he will fix the problem with the help of a mad party base.

or 'Humpty Deanty' :^)?
HD or DOA or DITW. . .whatever; Dean is a 'goner'. It will be interesting to see who his people throw their support behind.
Nader might be helpful; but maybe they will make themselves feel better, by just 'writing him in'.

Can we help start "Dean: An Independent for President" campaign?
To: L,TOWM
There is no doubt that the average FReeper is the same as the average GOP'er (Same thing goes for DU).
We're newshounds, and every little policy decision is on our radar screen, whereas the average voter has no clue of what's going on.

Dean can still win this. Just tote out the picture of Kerry under the Viet Cong flag and show him for the commy he truly is.
This will put Dean to the right of Kerry and bye bye JFK.

Can we help start "Dean: An Independent for President" campaign? I've been consoling the crestfallen Deanies at the local college with just that thought, reminding them that it's the principled thing for them to do.
On the other hand, I'd also like to see Edwards do well enough to be able to challenge Hillary for the 2008 nomination.

``To the extent that the Dean campaign created an online community, it was an online echo chamber,'' said Jack Pitney, a political scientist at Claremont McKenna College who has been active in Republican Party politics. ``It was basically a bunch of people who agreed with each other on certain issues, and they worked themselves into believing their ranks were much bigger than they were.'' This was very obvious to me. Consider that the numbers for anti-war rallies are always inflated, and by the power of 10 sometimes. The folks who go to those rallies are a rag-tag bunch who support many leftie organizations, but it is just a recycling of the same people on the membership rolls. Once they all sent in their movie money for a week or two, they were finished as a fund-raising market. Unless Soros or someone else was sprinkling around a lot more twenties and fifties, the donating days were over for Howie.
His speaking style and message were so tuned to the anti-war unwashed, and they will never be a majority in America.

Yeah, but imagine the flags they can put behind Dean!

Difference is that Dean is at least forthright with his views. He also governed a state. I know Dean is a flaming Socialist like Kerry, but Dean didn't go before congress and put down Americans. Dean didn't walk arm and arm with Hanoi Jane. And Dean did not try to get rid of the CIA.
Dean may be a lunatic but he really isn't as dangerous as Kerry. IMHO of course.
