QUITE A FEW people would probably rail against Laura Schlessinger, the radio pop psychologist known for her diatribes against abortion, working mothers, and gay rights, even if she said that you should be kind to animals and brush your teeth regularly. When "Dr. Laura" writes a book which pins most of the blame for modern marital problems on selfish, overly demanding women, that's bound to ruffle feathers.

I'm hoping for a good Freeper, too! They can't all be taken.
And in the meantime, I have a job I enjoy, own my own home (well...technically don't own 'cause I have a mortgage, but...) and my own life. I hope not to have to work if/when I have kids, for the kids' sake...but I do have skills to fall back on.

"In light of her recent troubles with militant homosexuals, it's often forgotten she also used to be a "flaming" homophile.
So much for your attempt to undermine."
what 'attempt to undermine'?
A. She derides working mothers, yet she is one herself.
B. Her personal history includes pornography, which is demeaning and degrading to women.
Really, she's done a fine job of undermining herself with her own hypocrisy.

I am sorry to hear that the journey was difficult, be pleased to learn that things have improved for your son.
My husband always told me that he didn't marry my family, he married me. It took a long time for me to understand the significance of his statement, but in many respects he was right. Having a strong mother has often made things difficult for me, as she urges me to be even stronger. She has never realized that the way my marriage has been formed has to do with a balance between us, a give and take. It works, thank goodness!

Your monochromatic assessment of her position on working motherhood is as frivolous as charging peace officers with hypocrisy for carrying weapons. Furthermore, her pornography is a good example of your ability to ignore crucial detail. Those were private pictures released by the man that took them. She's as guilty of pornography as a housewife wearing a teddy is guilty of solicitation.
Before leveling the charge of hypocricy at anyone, you'd do well to learn what the term means.

Current female "culture" is as antithetical to marriage as current black culture is antithetical to good race relations. Perfect summation bump

Dr. L was 100% right-on with her book. Treat a man like a man, and he'll treat you like a woman - period.

(h)At the gates of heaven there are two lines for men. One line is for men who were pushed around by their wives. The other for men who commanded their wives. In the first line there are hundreds are men. In the second line there is one short scrawny little man. Saint Peter observes this an goes to the little man. "Why are you, a little pip squeek, here in this line when we have all these other bigger stronger men admitting their misery?" The little man lookes around, leans closer to Saint Peter and whispers, "My wife told me to stand here." (/s)

Dr. Laura's book should be required reading - I'm just not sure where. ;-)

BTW....Andrea Yates was the perfect mother and wife....very compliant and yielding to her husband...... She was also clincially depressed, with bouts of very nasty psychotic episodes. Not your "normal" household situation, no?

A woman who refuses to marry is praise as independent.
A man who refuses to marry is condemned for not comiting.
FL has a three day waiting period for marriage licenses. The three days can be waived if the couple TOGETHER attends a pre-marital marriage class. There are thousands of approved locations. Essentially every church.

Andrea Yates was the perfect mother and wife....very compliant and yielding to her husband. Now that is an excellent point. And he, in return, did such a wonderful job taking care of her, didn't he?

Dr. Laura's book should be required reading - I'm just not sure where. In the toilet? I'm nearly out of paper.

I don't know what I meant, Cathryn, but I know I didn't mean
that!!!
You just wait until I think about this for awhile.

Really, she's done a fine job of undermining herself with her own hypocrisy. She does what she does because she has to. People change as they get olders. Dr. L was very liberal and very feminist earlier in her life. Do you want to be judged a hypocrite at 40 for honestly telling people not to make the same mistakes you made when your were 20? Hardly.

How about for both men and women. The feminsts are equally bend on lowering mens expectations of women in marriage. If a woman is nothing more than a glorified room mate, why bother. If a man is nothing more than a glorified room mate, why bother.
