MTV Statement on Super Bowl XXXVIII Halftime Incident
http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/040201/nysu032_1.html ^

Posted on 02/02/2004 4:06:31 AM PST by Bush Cheney

HOUSTON, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The tearing of Janet Jackson's costume was unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional and was inconsistent with assurances we had about the content of the performance.

MTV regrets this incident occurred and we apologize to anyone who was offended by it.

AOL was the main sponsor.

Why am I not surprised that the institution single-handedly responsible for dumbing down millions of otherwise intelligent Americans is the main sponsor?

Maybe this is what I need to get Xena's Mom off AOHell.

The removed photo was from Fox Sports, not some underground sneaky website.

They are not only crude, cheap and classless, they are dillusional as well to think we could be that stupid to buy such claptrap. I hope the outrage continues...this was the limit for me and obviously millions of others too. We need to stop this display of garbage. If they want to do this kind of activity then do it elsewhere but not while our families are watching. The Super Bowl was not a stage for depravity but unfortunately Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake thought they would spit in the eye of the world. I would venture to say they are finished. Well, Janet Jackson anyway. As for Justin Timberlake...you can 't be finished if you never got started. What was his claim to fame? Brittney? Geeezzz. what losers.

"...Don't forget - it was a pastie WITH a tastle...."

AND, don't forget how Kid Rock came on wearing the our Flag as a piece of cheap wardrobe. Noticing how the troops stood during the National Anthem, I wonder how they felt at this display of disrespect? The entire halftime show was a disgrace. Give me Shania Twain any day. I don't care if she lip-synced her part last year, as is alledged, it's still better than what we got last night. I hope someone sues cbs, mtv, viacom, the superbowl halftime committee, etc like there's no tomorrow. They all need to pay for this disgrace.

Yes it is improper to wear the flag as clothing, including when the 1980 Hockey team beat the Soviet team the goalie skated around the rink with the flag draped over him. I'd say it's worse to cut a hole in it for your head.

That was the worst half-time show ever ...

I totally agree. I have no idea what CBS and the NFL had in mind when they planned it.

CBS and the NFL need to apologize for the entire show and not just the nipple incident.

No, the NFL did not conduct the show. Apparently they had an agreement that the content would not be as it turned out.

It was improper for Jim Craig to do that. What was more offensive was when certain members of the US mens Olympic basketball team used them as drapes to cover up the logo of the uniform provider so as not to clash with the logo of the makers of the shoes they waer in the NBA and who they have shoe deals with. Totally disrespectful IMHO.

I expected this from an MTV produced show. This is why we turned it off at halftime and now seeing all of the hubbabaloo, I can see we made the right decision. Our kids were going to bed aronnd that time, but I just had a feeling that we should probably leave the halftime garbage off while we got their pjs and stuff on. We were close to not watching it anyway with some of the commercials. I really had a problem with the monkey coming on to the girl on the couch. Just had shades of bestiality.

The best way to stop these stints is when the NFL stop paying J.J. as a breach of contract, because she did not told in advance that she would bare her breast!

Why don't they just go ahead and bare it all instead of showing these rappers that they always have "FLEAS" in their crouches?

Yeah, that one constantly holding the front of his pants was not cool either. The guy kept playing with himself, the sick little b@st@rd.

It isn't just white children friend. The children from middle to upper class blacks and those handful in the ghetto who really are trying to shield their children from this are all being suckered as well. I've seen my fair share of black children behaving like they are ghetto when they have been raised in a middle to upper class lifestyle their whole existance. My bet is their parents aren't too happy with their children being suckered into the glorification of a degenerate lifestyle. The encouragement of this poisonous lifestyle to any child is disgusting.

If it was unplanned, then I think Mr. Timberlake should be charged with sexual assault on poor, innocent Janet Jackson.

That's "Miss Jackson" if you're nasty.

I'll bet the majority of the Super Bowl viewing/attending public instead WOULD HAVE LOVE performances by Toby Keith or George Strait or Faith Hill, etc. instead.

"Janet Jackson's indecent exposure was planned and completely consistent with the values of MTV/VIACOM/CBS"

Timberlake yanking at Janet Jackson's breast was intentional, and ripping at her clothes was intentional. It looked like a simulated act of violence to me, a prelude to rape, and this outrage isn't even being discussed.

Well, they said there would be a mystery guest, so my guess is that the boob was the mystery guest.
