Here's what I've sent to the NFL, CBS, MTV, the FCC and VIACOM. Thanks, Freepers, for the email addresses!
"The NFL halftime show was a study in degeneracy, from the filthy lyrics (which we tried to mute, but which scrolled on our screen anyway) to the simulated sex, to the S&M costuming complete with dominatrix persona, to the toplessness. It was tasteless, unamusing, unappealing, and completely appalling.
Whatever could have been in your mind, and in the mind of CBS? Bring back the old fashioned marching bands, or quit offering a halftime show. I'll know enough to tune it out next time...if there IS a next time. This may be our last Superbowl."

All of these people are disgusting liars, and I'll tell 'em so to their faces.
There are MANY indications that they're lying:
1) This stunt was publicized in advance by MTV, in an article entitled Janet Jackson's Super Bowl Show Promises 'Shocking Moments'
2) Matt Drudge has a source who tells us, "The decision to go forward went to the very top of the [CBS] network."
3) The video clearly shows that the exposure of Ms. Jackson's breast was fully choreographed with the last line of the song: "I'll get you naked by the end of this song."
4) In the video, Jackson very much appears to be deliberately positioning herself for the stunt. A split second before, she was waving her hands in front of her and dancing with her feet. When Timberlank reaches her side, she drops her hands and stands there absolutely still, waiting, while he slowly moves his hand across her chest to the far side of her breast. It is obviously a pre-arranged move, agreed upon by Jackson.
5) The video shows that Justin Timberlake's ripping off Jackson's breast-covering was an entirely deliberate action: he walks up, "stops" her, then his hand moves smoothly and deliberately into position, and then rips the covering off in a smooth, sharp motion.
6) The backward motion is smooth, and Janet Jackson was not pulled sideways at all by any resistance of fabric, indicating that the cup was specifically designed to come off quite easily.
7) The separation of the cup from the costume is clean and complete - if the cup were not designed to be easily and completely removed, it would merely have been torn and left dangling. Instead, we can't see even a dangling thread.
8) Jackson's hands go up, but only to her waist. This is not likely the action of a woman who has unexpectedly had her breast exposed in public. Such a woman would far more likely move to immediately cover her breast.
9) Jackson has her nipple at least mostly covered by the star, not likely a comfortable thing to wear while dancing on stage. The obvious usefulness of this is to prevent the full, obvious public exposure of her nipple.
I don't live in Houston, and my small children who tuned into the show with me missed the performance literally by seconds, so I probably shouldn't be the person to complain. But somebody, in my opinion, should file a formal complaint with the Houston police and demand that Jackson and Timberlake be charged in accordance with that city's laws, citing the specific points above in writing as evidence that the law was deliberately broken. Any takers?

I didn't watch the SuperBowl, but if they are gonna start showing boobs at half-time, I may tune in next year.

Whoa! What a crazy Super Bowl side show. It started before the half-time show with some of the Bud-Light commercials. We couldn't believe some of them-They were funny, but a bit over the top. I'm sure there's going to be an uproar about these too. On top of JJ flashing the world, there was a streaker on the field right after the Half-Time show(read this on another thread) too. (
I was wondering what the announcers were talking about when they said there was an uninvited guest on the field-LOL.)
FYI on Kid Rock (the guy wearing flag), he's a staunch supporter of Bush and the military and has gone to Baghdad at least once, if not twice, to entertain them. ( I thought he was the best part of the Half-time show). Over-all , I'd rate the Super Bowl show kind of amusing , but raunchy
I'd rate the game as outstanding. Too bad this other stuff will detract from the best story , which was the football game. Everybody I watched it with said it was the one of the best SB game's they had ever seen. Both teams played their hearts out . They went right down to the wire. The game was great.
Now I have to get back to cleaning up the mess from the party=no fun :-(

I didn't think it was that bad. It was so quick and far away you couldn't see nipple at all. Of course if you use photoshop to blow up the picture you can see something but not much. Anyways all the teens who saw it watch much worse at the VMA's (video music awards) and on mtv videos all the time. During video music awards Lil' Kim walks down the red carpet wearing a pasty on one breast and presented an award and Diana Ross jiggled the pasty breast on stage. Rose Mcgowan (Marilyn Manson's ex-girlfriend) walked down the red carpet at the VMA's totally nude except for a few bead strings draped across her butt cheaks and maybe something covering her crotch. I think they scrambled her nipples but not sure. I think Prince did a performance with his butt exposed and so did marily manson and howard stern did too. The lyrics and videos and vma performances are explicit, sometime offensive and racy. I think Nirvana sang a song called "rape me" one time at the VMA's against mtv's wishes. I don't consider the superbowl a family event I consider it a sport for mostly adult men and the ads and programming is geared toward adult men. Guys should have a show geared toward what they want to see because men watch it.

CBS and MTV ought to apologize for the entire halftime show. it was AWFUL!!!
To: mattdono
i have the superbowl on tape... tape it for the commercials... and i reviewed the halftime show... massive undertaking in production and coordination... lots of people and fireworks...
the bare breasting of ms jackson was planned with the ease of disrobing and the adornment of the nipple... all in line to spark controversy and get people talking... was it offensive? no. i bet the troops watching oversees enjoyed it and will be thinking about what they are fighting for back home... not a bunch of prudish individuals with narrow moral judgements, but good ole american gumption and freedoms...
as for the poncho worn by kid rock that looked like a flag... that flag stands for freedom of expression, a symbol to be displayed and honored... any way one feels the need to... some may argue that flag pins then can be a desecration... i think veterans who fight and die for a flag are misguided... the flag represents a country that is great because of the freedoms inherent in that country's make-up...
when circumstances in that country reach the point of people dictating respect for cloth, it makes me more apt to burning the symbol for it.
lighten up people, there are more important things to be disgusted with than a halftime showing of a naked breast, one that was very attractive... or a poncho worn by a rock star... he is a rock star right?
how many complaining wear flag pins, flag hats, flag bandanas... flag shirts... clothing with flags on it that are thrown in the washer...
i love america and respect the flag, i say the pledge of allegiance, but not to the flag... i have always had a problem with that... i pledge allegiance to america, not to its symbol...
soldiers have fought and died for america, not its flag...

Poor taste, terribly stupid idea on all fronts (literally), and an insult to the public. Who thought we wanted to see another half naked Jackson? Pathetic judgement.
Probably Jackson and Timberlake will admit they didn't want to do it...that it was in their contract and HAD to.
This is why I hate TV. Some guy behind a desk who thinks that the US is full of uneducated slobs who love to see this kind of Britney Spears half naked teen angst put to terrible music.
It is either a terrible insulting misjudgement on the minds of Americans, or it is a sad truth about what the people who watch tv really like. I would hate to know either way.

I think CBS should take responsibility for this. To say they didn't know it was going to happen was no excuse. They should have expected it and could have easily predicted it just by knowing it was MTV and Janet Jackson. They may not have know "what" but they should have known "something"! I think Fox will have the game next year. I hope there will be enough of an outcry against the show this year that they will do better next year.

Anyone else see the striking contrast between the demeanor of the players on both teams and the half-time participants.
Selfless, talented team players on both teams vs. the hedonistic self promoters with questionable talent during halftime!
