So the dim stratagy is to tell Guard members that they really aren't in the military? That should go over well.

"George Bush never served in our military in our country," McAuliffe told ABC's "This Week," apparently discounting Bush's stint in the National Guard from 1968 through 1973. "He didn't show up when he should have showed up."

He's done an admirable job of leading them for the last 4 years ..... what a twerp

If McAwfuls ally in this is Michael Moore, then my money is on the President.

Not related but by the way, does Moore even look like he practices basic hygiene?

George Bush never served in our military in our country," McAuliffe told ABC's "This Week,"

Now these are he kind of quotes that will go over well with the National Guard and reserve crowd. Especially the ones who have been to Iraq and Afganistan.

This will work about as well as the potential strategy on the part of Republicans to make hay w/Kerry's post-Vietnam activities.

I hope McAuliffe does, and I hope Kerry begins to mouth the stuff too, as opposed to relying on Max as his proxy for this assertion. In that A/W Kerry's words 'bring it on...'

Let's see, Kerry was getting shot at in Nam and winning medals. Bush took a leave from defending Texas to work on a political campaign in Florida and failed to report back for duty. Humm . . . going to be a tough choice on the military service issue.

This is pure McCarthyism - Charlie McCarthy. Remember the Clintons want Bush for one more term. They have Terry on a string. This is a losing strategy and they know it. Why else would the smartest people in the world be pushing this crapola?

Still, despite the fact that the Bush AWOL charge has been completely discredited, McAuliffe insisted that the president's guard service would be a major campaign issue.

Bring it on, McAwful.

Give us an excuse to show W in his 70s vintage flight suit, then for contrast, we can show him landing on the aircraft carrier last year.

Remember Goebbels dictum which has survived the test of time. "Tell a lie as often as necessary until it becomes the truth". Works every time.

"The facts are what they are," he told "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos. "[Bush] used his father's contacts to get a spot in the Texas Guard. He then wanted to go work on an Alabama Senate race. He went to Alabama for one year. He didn't show up. Call it whatever you want, AWOL - it doesn't matter."

If this guy had any concern for the accurate depiction of the UCMJ, he wouldn't be saying "AWOL - it doesn't matter." That's like saying "a sabbatical, a leave of absence, not showing up for work under penalty of law or possibly execution -- it doesn't matter."

BTW, I would be wary of extolling the virtues of a guy with the Senate attendance record Kerry has racked up while criticizing someone who "didn't show up."

Now where did I put that NYTimes Report that repudiated all this and made anyone tossing out the charge a bald faced liar? I need to have that in my hip pocket for every time some DemonYutz flaps his gums about this tall tale repeating the lies.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe insisted on Sunday that President Bush "never served in the military," and said that Democrats would make reports that the president went "AWOL" from the Alabama National Guard in the early 1970s a central focus of the presidential campaign.

Works for me. :o)

The Dem candidate in 2004 is SO toasted.

McAuliffe is assuming the Air National Guard or National Guard is of little or no value to the country. They have an awesome record of invaluable service to the country - McAuliffe seems to think that service is made up of draft dodgers.(ANG)

Although the Air National Guard was not established as a separate component of the U.S. Air Force until 1947, National Guard aviators have played significant roles in all of America's wars and most of its major contingencies since the beginning of the 20th Century. Visit the pages on this history site to explore the heritage of American flight... as seen through the deeds of minutemen.

I hope all Guardsmen and Major General Frank Scoggins will send McAuliffe and the DNC a huge message – The Air National Guard is vital to the Nation and does one Magnificent job!

John Kerry, a war hero with a chest full of medals – what a bunch of hooey! He turned on his country, threw his medals away, and has since abused his constitution and this Republic as badly as any enemy of the people. There were thousands of men and women in that conflict who served honorably, selflessly for their country. Democrats do not care about nor respect the United States Military – they deplore that group - they want the money spent on defense, spent instead on their social reforms!

Go for that debate McAuliffe, you won’t look any less the fool than you look now!
