Actually, as I stroll around Manhattan I see all these sports clubs with hundreds of people jogging away on treadmills, peddling stationary bicycles, and the like. Why not hook them up to generators? It would beat gerbil wheels all hollow. You might almost get enough power to light up the room where these activities were going on.

Hey...harness the power produced at gyms. The power companies could invest in 1000's of gyms across the country...no memberships required....they would have millions of new clients and....never mind.

ok... good luck with that.... IPO anytime soon?? lol

If this catches on, the demand for hamsters in the high-rent district is going to go way down.

With 1 horsepower roughly equal to 750 watts and a jogger putting out about 0.1 HP, you could light up a 75 watt light bulb (less, actually, due to electrical inefficiencies of the generator) from each person. Not much...

The idea stuck with him and became part of Endorphin Power Co., his solution for several social issues at once: It would restore addicts to sobriety, return homeless people to the larger society and conserve fossil fuels. ROTFL!! Goes to show that even when Rush Limbaugh is joking he's STILL right!! Do y'all remember his 'Public Service Announcement' a few years ago about folks with Restless Leg Syndrome and using them to ride stationary bikes in order to produce power? I hope he picks this up and talks about it on his show on Monday!!

A superbly-conditioned athlete can generate about 1400 watts for a brief time. For an hour, he can generate 1000 watts--and then might as well die.
I had a fellow who reasoned thusly: Astronauts must exercise in space. Connect their exercise bikes to generators, which power ion engines. Pedal your way to Mars!
Equally brilliant.
