The West has had the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Enlightenment, the Age of Reason and the Industrial Revolutionm along the way to modernity.

By contrast Islam forbids the very sort of independent thinking which made these things possible in the West.

There is a reason that Spain with its 40 million people translates more books into Spanish in a year than have been translated into Arabic in the last 1000 years.

There is a reason that non-Muslims, when they are not being actively persecuted, have always been treated as second-class citizens in Muslim societies.

That reason is that Muslims believe that their religion is the perfect expression of how a person should live, and that it is the bounden duty of Muslims to bring all the peoples of the world into the ummah — peacefully if possibly but by means of warfare if necessary.

Do Christians not believe in the Old Testament as well?

Most politicians refused to recognize and engage the religious component of Communism.

Now, they are doing the same with the political component of Islam.

Are you trolling for an argument? You can't possibly be that ignorant.

Interesting. The bullseye and the sign go hand in hand.

Really? What would you call the Inquisition?
The Inquisition was not Christianity. It was a political body. Interestingly, it looked like a pocket version of todays Saudi Justice system...

The Old Testament is filled with all kinds of violence.
The Old Testament can be understood properly only through the Gospel. Unfortunately you are ignorant about it. Anyway, violence is sometimes unavoidable. For example, when you face a mad, deceitful and suicidal Koran follower.

No, I am not trolling. I do know the answer. The guy I was responding to was made it sound as though Christians don't pay attention to the Old Testament.

There is a major difference between the Koran and the Bible, especially the Old testiment.

The Bible is a series of stories and parables which illustrate the inspired word of God.

The Koran on the other hand to be devine commandments and prohibitions revealed to Muhammed which rigidly regulate just about every aspect of Miuslim action and thought.

My friend, I don't know what region of the country you reside in, but I can tell you where I am there are large numbers of Christians who fit your exact description of the Koran. They take every part of it literally.

It is laughable that in your eyes the Christian version was the result of the system, but in the Muslim version it is the religion. The problem is/was a theocracy. The religion is not the most important part. I am not ignorant about the OT or the NT, but I am able to look at things in an objective manner, something that you certainly are not capable of doing.

Obviously this Indian lady is an American neo-con!!! After all, the Left says that they are the only ones who have a problem with Islam.

So i repeat, where are the Christian jihadis?

There's a big difference between preaching to someone for the good of his immortal soul and piloting a 767 into a skyscraper full of innocent people.

Thjere is simply no Christian or Jewish counterparts to the Muslim splodydopes who blow themselves to smithereens in their holy quest to kill as many infidels as possible.

No, I didn't; that's your mistaken inference.

some folks want to disparage the people that our young men and women are dying to protect
Uh! Protect from whom? And who's killing our fine soldiers?
I'm also trying to protect this peaceful individual here from himself. And it's a hard job. See here:

You mentioned that it was before Christ? If the inference is not that the OT is not observed or important to Christians, what is the point of mentioning that it was before Christ?

I repeat. The Gospel stands for Christianity. The Koran stands for Islam. They are vastly different. No comparison. The point is this: you have to come to us, not we to you You did not dare to comment on the Koran 17:64 did you! We can't negotiate under those terms. Forget it. Show us your compassion, pray for America, pray for democracy, go out in the open and condemn the Islamist killers. Do that often and hard and all we'll find a common language. Stay here and weasel and nobody will trust you. This is the Christian way.
