W&L Mock Convention Nominates Kerry [Edwards for VP]

Sen. John Kerry will be the next Democratic nominee for president if Washington and Lee University's prediction record holds true.

Kerry received 2,431 delegate votes in the 2004 Mock Convention held Friday and Saturday.

Former Vermont Governor Howard Dean trailed by more than half for second place with 944 votes.

Sen. John Edwards earned 719 delegate votes and the convention's nomination for vice president.

The quadrennial event featured keynote speaker James Carville, who lamented the younger generation's loss of a president they, and the world, can trust and admire.

He rallied the historically conservative students, who at times had difficulty playing the role of Democratic delegates and displayed signs supporting a George W. Bush re-election.

Perhaps the most boisterous support came from the Ohio delegation which, throughout all three sessions, cheered raucously for Rep. Dennis Kucinich. Still, that state handed only 10 of their 91 votes to the Cleveland native.

Every four years W&L holds a mock convention of the party out of power.

Actually, the Republican Party is well represented in the student body.

Well Edwards said NO to the VP job on Fox News last week. Lets see if he holds to that promise. Kerry will get nominated with the liberal media's help. If they could lick his boots right now they would.

I never would have guessed that Carville misses having Reagan as President.

In 1988 then Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton made an appearance at the W&L Mock convention, gave a speech -- then appeared later that night at a popular drinking spot favored by the underclassmen and coeds. Bill brought his sax -- and cornered a young undergrad coed, and had sex with her.

This story has circlulated for years since at W&L, and I'm quite certain its true.

The Palms?

No, Zollman's Pavillion, outside of town -- the original "loveshack".
