Gore Slams Bush On Environment

NEW YORK (AP) Former Vice President Al Gore on Thursday blasted President Bush as a "moral coward," saying he abandoned the public's environmental interests to accommodate his financial contributors.

Gore, in a speech before a full house at the Beacon Theater in Manhattan, said it sometimes appeared that "the Bush-Cheney administration is wholly owned by the coal, oil, utility and mining industries."

It was the latest in a series of harsh critiques from Gore on the Bush administration. The ex-Democratic presidential candidate, who lost the 2000 election to Bush, had previously accused the administration of cracking down on civil liberties since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and mishandling post-war Iraq.

The White House referred calls to the Republican National Committee, which criticized Gore and MoveOn.org, one of the organizers of the event.

MoveOn.org is a Washington-based online liberal activist group that recently held a contest for anti-Bush commercials. Republicans have been outraged by an ad submission to the website that compared Bush to Adolph Hitler.

"Al Gore today engaged in political hate speech in an address to MoveOn.org, the same group which recently posted ads comparing President Bush to Adolph Hitler on their web page," said RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie in a statement.

"Instead of repudiating these tactics, Al Gore chose to embrace the vile tactics that are becoming the hallmark of the Democrat Party at its highest levels. Like the Democrat presidential candidates, Al Gore has once again chosen to use his time at the podium to attack the President rather than put forward a positive agenda of his own."

Gore, speaking on a bitterly cold day, addressed the issues of global warming and the administration's environmental policies.

"While President Bush likes to project an image of strength and courage, the real truth is that in the presence of his large financial contributors, he is a moral coward," said Gore.

He accused the administration of gutting environmental laws, and criticized Bush for not acting to prevent global warming, and for pushing to open parts of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling.

Gore said Bush was the first president since Theodore Roosevelt to turn his back on the need for conservation.

At times, the speech seemed more like a college lecture, with Gore using slides of charts and photographs, and at one point, a "Simpsons"-like cartoon to make his points. The partisan audience listened attentively for over an hour, cheering frequently.

The biggest laugh came when Gore was talking about the impact of rising sea levels due to ice caps melting from global warming. He pointed out that rising waters would displace millions in Bangladesh, and then said it would also have a serious flooding effect in Florida, the state at the center of the 2000 election controversy.

A cheer from the audience inspired laughter, which turned into an uproar when Gore said, "You be careful. I believe I carried Florida."

Gore's appearance was also co-sponsored by Environment 2004.

The last quote just proves how delusional and pathetic Gore has become.

Pathetic is not exactly on target. Scary would be better. Scary because he has credability with so many people! (am I wrong?) Even if they are liberal, how can they be so blind to the facts that Gore continually gets wrong and is applauded for saying? I have been told that I am too logical and that logic is not apart of politics.

I feel 'rant' coming on.

the end.......lol

That is exactly what I am talking about. He completely ignores the fact that half the country has been frozen for weeks now and it is breaking some records!

It is scary that he could have gotten as many votes as he did. Something wicked this way comes, me thinks. Its evil to stand up and tell lies hoping that you can get away with it so that you can gain more power to tell bigger lies.

Seems to me Gore is floundering about in a desperate attempt to prove he is relevant, which he isn't. Speaking to Environment 2004 and Moveon.org is preaching to the choir. He can only get gigs with extremist fanatic groups or Howard Dean.

You can smell Al Gore's care for the environment in the smoldering ruins of 20 million acres of federal socialist forests burned since 2000.
