Gwyneth Paltrow is following her friend Madonna by snubbing British hospitals and having her first child in America.
The 31-year-old actress, five months pregnant, had hoped to give birth in the UK, according to friends.
But they say Madonna - who caused outrage when she called our hospitals 'old and Victorian' - has talked her out of it.
Now Miss Paltrow, who is often fulsome in her praise of Britain and whose husband is English rock singer Chris Martin, has apparently decided on a home birth at her mother's house in Los Angeles.
One friend said: 'Madonna told her all these horror stories about how bad the English hospitals are.
So now she has decided to give birth in Los Angeles.
'She has always wanted a home birth so she didn't think it would make much difference where she had it.
'But Madonna, who had lots of complications with son Rocco, told her that if something went wrong America is the best place to be.'
Madonna has even persuaded Miss Paltrow to use her doctor, who is known as Dr Antony.
He is hoping Miss Paltrow will have the baby in a hospital, rather than at home.
But the friend added: 'Chris wants Gwyneth to be as comfortable as possible and he also thinks they can keep the birth more private by having it at her mother's house.'
Madonna, 45, who like Miss Paltrow has an English husband, caused controversy with her comments, just before the birth of Rocco in 2000, that she would never contemplate willingly going into a UK hospital.
'Have you been to hospitals in England?' she asked. 'They are old and Victorian. You know I like efficiency.'
Until now it had been believed
Miss Paltrow, who married Coldplay frontman Martin, 26, in California last month, would have her child in England, as she has already discussed how she considers it home, and wants her children to be British educated.
She lives in a £500,000 flat in Belgravia, Central London.
She and Martin have been looking for a larger family home in the capital and are also considering getting a place in the country.
'This is the most fascinating city in the world,' she said of London recently.
'I'm very comfortable here and I really appreciate the European perspective.'
However, last month the actress did complain about 'officious' parking wardens and the ' exorbitant' price of petrol.

This is when Italy seems progressive...you can do a "denuncia" on a person that you feel should not be allowed to stay in the country. Too bad the U.S. doesn't have this so we could keep Gwennie in Britain and not allow her return to the U.S. she hates so much.

Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
BTW - To our English conservative friends, we apologize that these two jokers are infecting your land, but we are very glad that they don't live here anymore!!!

And, we have a few more they could have, free of charge. Danny Glover & Alec Baldwin to start with.

Madonna has even persuaded Miss Paltrow to use her doctor, who is known as Dr Antony. This seems odd. "...who is known as..."? Makes me think his first name is Doctor and he's got about as much medical training as Madonna.

Even the vile spewing lefty libs know it, but pretend otherwise. For what purpose, I don't understand.

How does this work...if an American gives birth in another Country is the child an American? would that be a reason to have your child born here?

uuhhhh yeaaa....aren't these the same gals who are always bad mouthing our government/society? look if you subscribe to a liberal philosophy..then you better be ready to take the downfalls...ie no one making anyone account for anything thus crappy doctors/hospitals..just ask Canada..they suffer from the same problem

Even brain-dead America-hating Lefties like Gwennie are forced to concede America has creature comforts unmatched in the rest of the world. When it comes to their convenience, they're will to throw principle out of the window. I'd have had more respect for her if she had just stayed in the UK for good.

I thought she'd be back to America as soon as the mood struck her. My daughter went out to L.A. last fall to stay with a friend, and told us that she ran into Gwyneth Paltrow at a Halloween Party.

Exactly. She, and people like her, would happily do to our health care system the same as has been done to England's. You'd think they would be at least smart enough to see the irony.

She finds the United States to be too frightening and patriotic a place to raise her child. Funny she can't see how all she fears produces all she wants, including her celebrity status and wealth.

Gwenyth shut up already!!!!!!

Gwyneth Paltrow: "America is filled with overly patriotic yahoos and I hate the place and won't raise my child there, but I will take advantage of my citizenship in any way that I can for my own betterment."

LOL! They want the best of both worlds... socialized medicine for the peasants, but private medical care for the aristocracy.
Since so many Europeans don't rinse their dirty dishes, I wonder what they do to sterilize medical instruments :-)

You'd think they would be at least smart enough to see the irony.I doubt she's got enough functioning brain cells to even begin to grasp the concept of "irony." However, she and her fellow Hollywood leftists are smart enough to know that they will never have to settle for getting their health care from government-run hospitals. Those will be strictly for us hoi polloi - they will have access to state-of-the-art, privately-run clinics where they can get the fat pumped out of their asses without risking maybe rubbing elbows with the filthy unwashed.
