Suicide bomber's family is proud [70% of "Palestinians" feel this way, folks]
Jerusalem Post ^ | Jan. 30, 2004 | KHALED ABU TOAMEH

The family members of the Palestinian suicide bomber who carried out Thursday's attack in Jerusalem said they are proud of their son. The terrorist's father, Munir Ja'arah, described the bombing as a "heroic operation," and said the family supports his son's decision to launch the attack.

"My son is a hero and we are proud of what he did," said Ja'arah, who lives in the Dehaishe refugee camp near Bethlehem. "The crimes of the Israeli occupation push young Palestinians to carry out such attacks."

He was speaking as scores of Palestinians arrived at his home to "congratulate" him on the "martyrdom" of his son, Ali. Neighbors said that as soon as the bomber's identity was announced many local residents took to the streets to express their joy.

"This is a natural response to Israel's massacres, especially the killing of nine [sic] Palestinians in Gaza City a day earlier," said local resident Salah Odeh. "The people here are very happy to hear the good news. The Palestinian people support this attack and want to see more like it."

Ali Ja'arah, the 24-year-old suicide bomber who worked in as a policeman in Bethlehem, was also a member of Fatah's armed wing, the Aksa Martyrs Brigades. He said in a written will distributed by the group in Dehaishe that the attack is a direct response to Wednesday's IDF operation in the Zaitoun neighborhood of Gaza City in which eight Palestinians were killed.

A leaflet issued by the Aksa Martyrs Brigades said the attack was intended "to show the Zionist enemy that the separation fence would not bring them security."

Ali Ja'arah's uncle, Jihad Ja'arah, was one of the group's leaders in the Bethlehem area. He was one 13 Palestinian gunmen who were deported by Israel after they were holed up inside the Church of the Nativity in 2002 for several weeks.

Jihad, who has been living in Ireland since he was deported from Bethlehem, said on Thursday that he, too, is proud of his nephew's action. He told reporters and relatives by phone that he fully supported the suicide attack because it was a "natural response to Israel's continued occupation and crimes against the Palestinians."

Many residents of Bethlehem expressed fear that the IDF would reenter the city to demolish the terrorist's house. Bethlehem and Jericho are the only two West Bank cities where the Palestinian Authority has full security control.

"Of course we are concerned that Israel would invade the city again," a Bethlehem municipal official told The Jerusalem Post. "The feeling here is that this attack is going to have a bad effect on the city."

PA Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei condemned the attack, as well as the IDF raid the day before. Qurei, in a statement issued by his office, called for a cease-fire and immediate implementation the road map plan.

"The prime minister and the Palestinian [Authority] cabinet condemn the bus bombing in Jerusalem this morning that killed and wounded a number of people, and condemn the violence against our people in which occupation forces assassinated eight Palestinians yesterday in Gaza," the statement said.

The bombing is seen as a serious setback to Qurei's efforts to enforce law and order in PA-controlled areas. Earlier this week he announced a series of reforms designed to end the state of lawlessness. PA policemen have been redeployed in West Bank cities where they had all but disappeared since April 2002.

This is the problem Israel faces.

This is the type of society being built courtesy Palestinian Authority.

These will be the citizens of the new "Palestinian" state.

Occupation = Israeli existence.

These are the people the RATS say we should be "even handed" towards.

I'm sorry, but to paraphrase Churchill, there is no virtue in remaining neutral in a battle between the firefighters and the fire.

The murderer had an "uncle Jihad". How heartwarming. Here's the "palestinian public" you are accomodating Mr. Sharon.

I believe it was Golda Meir who described them as hating their enemies more than they loved their own children.

How sick, perverted and just plain un-natural is that. Even the beasts and birds of the field die to protect their young.

Not too long ago I saw some piece on TV about the the homicide bombers and they stated that in some(I don't know how many) cases, what the family expresses behind closed doors is not what you see in public. I think there is alot of pressure to conform, especially given their culture. These people are not taught to think independently.

Occupation = Israeli existence.

Exactly, and "cease-fire" = hudna, aka time to build strength for the next attack.

In defense of the parents, if they said otherwise, the “religion of peace” adherents in their neighborhood would machete off their limbs, as Allah gleefully recommends.

Well, I don't buy that. Although it is possible. I recall times when the family criticized the terrorist organizations for recruiting their loved ones in public. Nonetheless, this family will now be getting a stiped for their service.

Oh there's no argument what could be too politely termed a conflict of interest. Some interesting analysis/history I read on Arab social structure and culture shows the groupthink mentality and the subversion of the individual. Pride and honor at the expense of all else, and they are being indoctrinated in a culture of death.

Could someone explain this to me.
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
Why is this tolerated?
suppose canadians snuck into seattle and bombed buses and pizza parlors. If it happened twice and the canadian government didn't spent 50% of gnp on stopping this they would be nuked. How come Isreal can't provide the proper incentives so this doesn't ever happen?

Why should Isreal provide any other incentive than death? These people are evil - Islam is evil. It's bad enough that Isreal even entertains the idea of sitting down at the same table as terrorists - talking about the PA, and Arafat primarily. They deserve death and nothing better.
