Note: this image has been doctored!

However, it is based on a real event:

In the article, you'll find a link to an in-cockpit video of the incident.

Hey, that image has been Photoshopped.

(Just wanted to see how it felt to be on the GIVING end of this dumb statement for once)

That video is incredible. Frame by frame the end is fascinating.

I don't understand about the photo, how it was created, and by whom. Is it entirely a fake mock up? What is photoshopped about it?

Caution: the video is 4.3 megabytes.

My compliments to the artist. I was just now fiddling with the image trying to bring out any seams in the image; there are none! Even after boosting the contrast to a ludicrous level, you cannot see where one image stops and the other begins.

(And for those who are asking how we know that it was altered, the website has the line "With thanks to the folks at Adobe" as a caption.)

Photoshop is an extremely good graphics program by Adobe. With it one can alter regular ol' photos, superimpose, etc. Don't think about buying it unless you are moderately rich. :-)

Ok. Exactly in what way has it been altered?

The video is cool.

Ok. Exactly in what way has it been altered?

Well, one way is to examine *other* photos taken from other cameras at the same event, but, this is the 'long way around', granted ...

I don't believe (am almost positive) that this photo has been altered.

As in "Adobe Photoshop".

For clarification, see this URL:

Page down a bit to "Picture of the Week":

As usual, we received dozens of great photos from AVweb and AVflash readers this week. It was a tough call, but this week's winner is a departure from the norm. The photo is a doctored image of the September, 2003, Air Force Thunderbirds accident. The author is invited to get in touch. Otherwise, we hope you'll enjoy the product of an active imagination, a decent skill set ... and a bit too much spare time.

Now you know why F-16s are derisively called "lawn darts" by real fighter pilots.

The reference refers to the F16s ability to outfly the pilot and, before g-limiting software, cause them to lose consciousness and plow into the ground. If anything, it was a compliment to the F16s amazing maneuverability as a dogfighter.
