Virtually all we have learned from space we have learned from unmanned space vehicles. Putting man in space has taoght us almost nothing. Send more Rovers everywhere.

You're one-sided viewpoint reveals your bias and/or your lack of knowledge.

The robots can only tell us what they are programmed to tell us. That may be allot, but it's not the whole story.

Imagine the moon landing - without the people, using only the technology of that time period. The impact on mankind would have been what?

I think we are missing out on things on mars for the same reason, the robot has no imagination or intuition and the human kind is not intimately connected to what it does.

The current round of probes can not pick up a rock of any size and look at what's underneath it. It can't toss a stone and marvel at how it flies in the lower gravity. It can't feel the sand or relate what its surrounding to anything on earth. The cameras will only show so much, a man could see more, from more perspectives in several seconds than the probe can see all day.

We are missing allot by not being there, just what? There is no way to tell until we go.

The ability to put people in space can be a very useful tool. Likewise the Shuttle's ability to bring large amounts of cargo down from orbit. When those abilities are not needed, however, manned Shuttle missions are a waste of money compared with the cheaper alternatives.

With all due respect, those rovers have a tendency to break down - a lot and often. Humans can adapt to new situations and fix broken equipment - think Apollo 13 mission. Contrast this fact with the techies on the ground at JPL trying to jimmy that Erector set / RC car they've got on Mars to even radio home.
