ADL Continues Anti-Christian Jihad
Human Events ^ | January 28, 2004 | Joseph A. D'Agostino

Now that Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Director Abraham Foxman has finally seen Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, he still doesn't like it. The movie "continues its unambiguous portrayal of Jews as being responsible for the death of Jesus," he said in a statement last week. Perhaps Foxman wants Gibson to ignore the involvement of the Jewish establishment at that time in the death of Christ, and perhaps he himself wants to ignore the movie's reportedly unambiguous portrayal of the pagan Pontius Pilate's responsibility for the death of Christ. Pilate made the final decision to crucify Christ despite knowing that He was innocent, and the oldest Christian creed, the Apostles Creed, says that Christ suffered and died "under Pontius Pilate" while making no mention of Jewish involvement.

Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights President William Donohue has been doing battle with Foxman and ADL, who with other left-leaning allies have generated far more controversy over this Gospel-based movie than they have over the real problems of anti-Semitism on college campuses and among many American blacks and Muslims. On January 26, Donohue sent a letter to Foxman asking for an apology for one of Foxman's recent outbursts: "Regarding the Mel Gibson movie, The Passion of the Christ, you were quoted on January 23 in the Los Angeles Times saying, '[Gibson is] hawking it on a commercial crusade to the churches of this country. That's what makes it dangerous.'" "This is very disturbing," wrote Donohue. "To say the film is dangerous because the people who are previewing it are church-going Christians is an insult to practicing Christians. The subtext of this remark is that church-going Christians are latent anti-Semitic bigots ready to lash out at Jews at any given moment."

With all of the support Palestinian suicide bombers get from the left in this country, I'm a bit puzzled by the ADL's concern over a movie. I'm also puzzled by the left's concern over supposed anti-Semitism in this movie, given their devotion to Arafat and the murder of innocents in Israel. Could it be that the real criticism of this movie is that it doesn't do another typical Hollywood hatchet job on Christianity?

The ADL and ACLU: America's original and still pre-eminent home grown domestic terrorist organizations.

I think somebody should tell FOXMAN that when you kill somebody they usually don't get up. Jesus was not in the tomb on the third day and as the risen SAVIOUR observed for 40 days he can now rest assured "HE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR KILLING ANYONE" This guy has Alzheimers or Dimentia.

Someone tell him: JESUS IS NOT DEAD!

Probably because they know stopping the spread of anti-Semitism, as they view it, is just as important as fighting against it in its most violently manifested form.

Germans didn't just one day start rounding up Jews so that they could inject them with experiments, use them to test weapons, gas them and incinerate them. It started with making them scapegoats and targets for ill will. Then they dehumanized them. After that, they could get away with doing anything they wanted to them, they weren't people after all.

And what better way to get the masses whipped up into a fervor than to insist the Jews killed Jesus Christ? It happen in Europe centuries ago and decades ago. And Europe has never really gotten beyond it. The ADL doesn't want it happening here.

That is ridiculous...Is our society going backwards that we just let countries persecute people in the name of race, creed and religion in 2004?

What have our soldiers been doing overseas that last years? what have they been fighting for... I'm sorry were never going to allow a Holocaust of the Jews, Slavery for the Blacks or anyone else without a huge fight from the proud americans of the United Staes of America... This is not 1800 or 1941...

Iam complaining to folks that beleive our country has not progressed for the better in the tolerance and acceptance of people in the last 60 years.

Our country is in a mess and we are dealing with terrorism but "Americans" are not a bunch of blithering idiots when it comes to what happened in the past that there going to allow it to happen again.

I agree that historic anti-Semitism was religion based, but now it's more politically motivated and coming from the secular socialists and atheist communists. Were I Jewish, I'd be more afraid of Hillary Clinton than Jerry Falwell.

Although many wish it wasn't so, and some go along grudgingly, yes, we have made progress. The problem is that at some point, progress slows, progress stops, and regress begins. I don't know what point we're at, but it would be wise to stay on guard against falling into old ways of suspicion and hatred.

If anyone has something to worry about I would say it is any decent Muslims, Americans for the most part think Muslims and ISLAM are people that are in-human the hate for the Muslim in the United States is un-measurable and I hate to say it but I find myslef thinking there animals because what is happening overseas and especially in the Middle East. We the USA and Israel could wipe the ARAB countires off the face off the earth and that is a problem they should be concerned with. Hopefully Americans will not resort to treating Muslims as the Nazis did to the Jews but I do hear many people say we should...

Does Abraham Foxman remember that his life was saved by a Catholic nanny during the holocaust?

Tempest in a tea pot! Piffle and foffle! Crap!
Does he really think this movie will inspire pogroms against Jews?

How many English have died or homes destroyed after the showing of JOAN OF ARC films?

How many Japanese have died or been burned out as a result of the HISTORY channel films on Jap brutality in WW11!

How many Jews have suffered as a result of the many JESUS films made in the last 100 years?
KING OF KINGS
BEN HUR
THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD
THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO SAINT MATTHEW
and many more!

Again, much ado from the ADL about nothing!

If the ADL had any sense they would dump Foxman - he certainly causes more harm betweeen Christians and Jews than any movie that Mel can make.

Also did we have any deaths arise from the movie "Roots"
or how about "Tora, Tora, Tora".

Our problems might arise should we have guilty verdicts for Michael Jackson or Kobe Bryant, that might cause a stir....

Right. And while we're at it, maybe we should burn all the New Testament Bibles. We sure don't want that inflammatory information getting out.

*****Also did we have any deaths arise from the movie "Roots" ****

After the showing of ROOTS there was some vandalism in Hot Springs Ark, and lots of sulled up faces in other places but no nationwide problems.

And living in California in 1995 the verdicts of Not Guilty for the "Los Angeles Police Officers" resulted in many deaths, ruined communities and ruined lives.

Very strange to see the National Guard rolling down your street and the in-ability to leave your house....I hope we never have to experience that again...
