The Houston Area Texans Chapter
of
The FreeRepublic Network
Is having a birthday party!
When: Saturday, February 7th, 2004 ~ 5:00 pm
Where: Cabo ~ 419 Travis
How: METRORail
Come celebrate two years of FReeper fun! In December 2001 five FReepers had an almost secret meeting and agreed to form a new Houston area Chapter. On January 19, 2002 we had our first meeting of the newly formed Chapter.
The past 2 years we have FReeped, worked elections, attended the Texas GOP convention, had some wonderful days at the range, joined in some great rallies and enjoyed each others company.
Many of us plan to meet at the Fannin Park and Ride and take the train downtown. This is being done to make a showing of our bravery and willingness to live life on the edge. Protective head gear is recommended. We will board the train at 5:00 pm. We should arrive at Cabo's at about 5:30 (We will de-train at the Preston St. Station). There is paid parking available downtown near Cabo's if you wish to meet us there.
Remember - if you entered our FR coffee mug give-a-way you may be a winner. Come and get your mug!

No I'm not going but I'm friends with the President and owner of DGI. :-)
Do you know who is teaching it?
I show that it's going to be at the Wyndam 2/5.......that's not far from where I work. I'll have to pop over for lunch or something?

Why Cabo's???!!! They have the worse service, loud crappy music and mediocre food...do we get a special discount? I hope to make the party but will pass the choo choo ride...

Do you know who is teaching it? Vic Thomas is teaching this one, I've never had him before.
I've had Phil Rieke for IMDG and Leon Scofield & Marc Campos for IATA a couple of times.
They are all pretty good in my opinion.
I'll holler at you when I hit Dallas Monday! ;-)

Just so everyone that wants to, "Wife-Unit" and I scoped the parking situation down at the beginning of the Metro "Train of Death" line...
Just go like yer ghoing to Astroworld...Take the new section of Fannin south (south of the 610 loop) and go down to the...I think its the first light...I may be wrong...My memory fades due to a B-12 deficiency...yeah right...
Anyway the Metro parking lot is to your left (you can't miss it)...Its $2 to park all day...And the all-day MetroRail ticket is also $2 a head...That way you won't be rushed...
I believe the lot is fairly secured, it is manned for the most part to get yer money at least...
So we plan to be there in time to meet all who wish to ride in on the "Train of Death" at 5:00pm Saturday after next...
Look forward to seeing everyone...
Later,
Steve

The BEST area for the "type" of crowd we end up being after a few drinks has to be in one of the "Bohemian" areas of town..."Montrose or the Heights area".
I have always liked the spot Dix came up with..."Catbirds" it was PURRRRRRfect....
Hey and don't get yer undies in a knot...I remember when I made "suggestions" half the group got snotty and uppity...I guess it is my turn to be snotty and uppity...gee paybacks are a bitch!
Personally IF it isn't too late...why not consider the "Slick Willie's Pool hall downtown near the Anjelica theater...they have food and sport...(weapons HA HA!!!) an atmosphere for cheer and screaming and partying and more drinking and screaming and partying...and..oh well YOU get the picture!
Regardless I hope to catch up with ya folks...

Slick Willie's Pool hall downtown near the Anjelica theater. Is it near the rail line? I'm unfamiliar with that area.
See, the idea was to select a venue on the rail line so that
some us might get to ride the thing at least once, since it
really doesn't go anywhere useful. Besides, it's so prone to
colliding with things and having accidents that it'll be almost
like a thrill ride.. or bungee jumping or something!
I want to ride the Death Train, just so I can say I rode it, and lived.

I may just have to join you guys on this adventure. Please do. Don't forget your crash helmet if you are going to ride the train with us.
