Great post.
I know it pales against the human toll, but...
Having been deprived FOREVER of the ability to see/visit the WTC towers,
I get really uplifted whenever they appear in some old footage, e.g.,
in the background of Die Hard III or in Rick Burns documentary on
The Brooklyn Bridge.

I'm so happy that political-correctness and concerns about offending some folks
hasn't yet erased the image from the public forum.

It's sort of like "our flag AND our towers are still there".

We were watching Independence Day with the kids this evening, and I wondered out loud if we'd see the towers. Sure enough, there they were!
