PAUL O'NEILL WON'T GO AWAY

Fired former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill is in the news again. He now says that he stands by his criticism of the inner workings of the Bush administration, but regrets his "vivid language" is detracting from serious issues. He says that he hopes "this book will cause young people to aspire to improve our political process." Interesting. Not sure that that has to do with calling the President of the United States "a blind man in a room full of deaf people," but why sweat the small stuff.

And speaking of President Bush, he has finally made a statement about the Paul O'Neill controversy, and this is an absolute classic. Speaking at a dinner on Saturday night, the President said "What a stellar crowd. It looks like the index of Paul O'Neill's book. Let me say something about that book. Paul said I was disengaged because he talked to me for 45 minutes and I didn't say a word. I wasn't disengaged. I was bored as hell and my mother told me never to interrupt."

It's hard to argue with that. Politicians really should tell the truth more

As for his unwillingness to listen to Christie Whitman spew on Kyoto......the Pres was right to simply tell her that he had made up his mind. NO KYOTO......

Tough if that offended O'Neil or Whitman's sensibilities.....they've been around the block and if they can't take it......too too bad!

THAT is George Bush. I'll never forget the first time I saw a one on one interview of George Bush - probably in 1998-1999. The guy killed me. Of course, being from Texas I can identify with him. My favorite is his imitation of the woman murderer that was put to death in Texas.

As for his unwillingness to listen to Christie Whitman spew on Kyoto......

Whitman was a twit. Bush denounce the principles behind Kyoto in every debate and throughout his campaign. Whitman was like the only person on earth who thought Bush supported Kyoto because in one obscure campaign speech a speechwriter insertered a reference to controls of pollutants which included CO2 and Bush about choked when he read it.

Further about O'Neil......he is still smarting from the public humiliation of being fired. Little does he know the ridicule he received from the public for travelling with Bono............

The man is out to lunch.....and should get off the stage. I watched Suskind on CSPIN and the man is a rabid Bush hater with no pretense of finding the truth at all. He used O'Neil as a vehicle to spew hatred about the President and his administration.

And if Bush had been more engaged, O'Neil would have complained that Bush constantly interrupted him.

I tend to be a very engaged, interactive, listener-- which means I interrupt people a lot. It is usually considered more polite to do what Bush did.

It is so great to have a first-rate President for a change.
