That was there squad like a radiation first response they followed them around on the job to quite boring calls possilbe leaks from normal usage in our envrirment. ie Hospitals ect."
Every state has an agency that does this, as well as the Federal Government. Depending on the state, it may be in the State Department of Environmental Services, or the State Department of Health.
So in addition to the Feds, most states have trained radiation technicians, scientists, and health physics types who can do radiation surveys and mitigate radiological hazards.
Thats what I do for a living.
