Here is the reason for locking the thread and moving it to chat (if you go to the old thread, you get this:)

FUNCTIONAL house keeping problem, evidently.

Software but sort of a mechanical software problem in that protecting the news section from such a popular, rapidly growing huge thread requires it to be in chat for lack of a better place to put it, evidently.

The size. There are chat threads larger than this. This hardly has any graphics.
