Oh good grief. If they retrieved the bullet (whether from the shoulder or from the ground) they can do a ballistics test and compare it to the guards gun. Sounds to me like they are trying to do a "move along, nothing to see here" scenario and then drop the story below the media radar AGAIN.

On General Interest (Chat) 01/05/2004 6:48:36 PM CST #6,806 of 15,468
For my own purposes, I'm attempting to summarize the last 2500 or so posts; a "Cliff's Notes" if you will:
1) Multiple flight cancellations involving BA, Air France, & AeroMexico over the holidays was due to specific intel obtained by US and Great Britain of a possible al Qaeda attack on NYC, DC, LA, east coast power plants, or Valdez, AK, despite "disinformation" by the French.
Great Britain is now hunting for 2 known al Qaeda terrorists in connection with above. Flights continue to be monitored closely, and BA pilots continue to balk at the thought of air marshals on flights.
2) The crash of an Egyptian jet into the Red Sea was quickly labeled a "mechanical malfunction" despite the fact that Tony Blair and his family were only miles away, and he was meeting with Mubarrak (sp?) that very afternoon. Never mind the fact that it takes weeks or even months to arrive at a cause after much investigation; Egyptian officials have this one all wrapped up in a matter of a few hours, before they've even begun to salvage the wreckage.
Today, an Islamic extremist group has claimed responsibility, but this claim has been pretty much ignored by mainstream media so far.
3) Cryptic messages continue to be posted on message boards known to be sympathetic to jihadi extremists. One particular find included pics of the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas (taken several years ago), a 747, & a blurry pic of the Staples Center in LA.
Another involves a bloody hand rising out of a map of Saudi Arabia; also on this map is eastern Egypt and the Red Sea.
4) A new message from Osama bin Laden has been broadcast by Al Jazeera (which aired only 14 minutes of his hour-long rant), urging his followers to continue the fight and making reference to the capture of Saddam Hussein. Particularly irksome to OBL is supposed cooperation of ME countries with the US. This tape has not yet been authenticated, & there is much speculation on either side of the issue as to whether OBL is still alive, although latest sources (CIA) say it is indeed him.
5) Much "digging" on the part of numerous FReepers has uncovered extensive underground tunnels/cave systems throughout much of the US. It has been noted that these tunnels/caves have been used for everything from smuggling of illegals into the US from Mexico, & bootlegging during Prohibition, to legitimate usage such as storage, electrical connectivity, the "Underground Railroad", etc.
Another astute Freeper has made the observation that several mosques in her area are located very close to known tunnels.
6) A Soviet official testified before Congress several years ago that it is highly likely that "suitcase nukes" have already been brought into this country. This same official died in a helicopter crash in Siberia.
7) In the last 2 weeks, there have been sizable earthquakes in California, Mexico, Bali, and Iran, with the 6.7 in Iran causing a loss of life upwards of 30,000 souls. And there is continued concern over the rise in groung temperature in Yellowstone. Along with a spectacular meteor shower viewed in Spain, as well as northern Iran.
8) Alert FReepers have noted a "spike" in the gold market, and are keeping close watch. By the end of today, it seemed to have leveled off, but bears watching, especially since al Qaeda posters had made specific references to gold.
9) Besides al Qaeda's known modus operandi involving airliners, it has been noted that other means/methods we need to consider are nuclear or biochemical attacks, and the possibility of attacks at/by sea.
10) A brochure has been published which points to a Pakistani company having offered nuclear intel for sale.
Please feel free to add to/correct my feeble summary.
My continued prayer is that we all remain ever vigilant.

Beats me. I can't fathom wanting to do such a thing in the first place. But, if you wanted to trigger the detonation via cell-phone but leave the lead shielding on (so the radiation wasn't detected by a NEST team wandering by) I suppose that would be one way to do it.

THREAD SUMMARY #2:
Posted by liberallyconservative to All
On General Interest (Chat) 01/13/2004 9:16:29 PM CST #9,936 of 15,468
In honor of 2 months and 10,000 posts, it's time for another THREAD SUMMARY:
1. Al Qaeda threats to NY, LA & Washington, DC grew to include other major US cities, including but not limited to Las Vegas, Detroit, Chicago, etc. We must all remain vigilant, wherever we live.
2. Initial fears of other 9/11 style attacks involving airplanes remain, but we cannot be focused on that possibility alone.
3. US Gov't. concerns have grown to include the possibility of nuclear/chemical/biological attacks. Be alert and BE PREPARED.
4. Intel has also raised the possibility of attacks at sea, and has pointed out our vulnerability at our ports and along our coastlines. If you live in such an area, be alert.
5. Our borders continue to leak like a sieve. We need to pay attention (and we need to voice our concerns to anyone who will listen.)
6. Many thefts of late have our spidey senses tingling: thousands of gallons of gasoline, a tanker truck, a plane stolen last year remains unaccounted for, along with numerous uniforms and badges/IDs are cause for concern. Pay attention; if something doesn't seem right, it probably isn't.
7. Lax security at our nuclear plants and small airports is inexcusable, and continues to be pointed out. Be vigilant.
8. Numerous earthquakes have occurred around the world, with many lives lost. So far, that's one thing the terrorists have been unable to take credit for. (Although they are claiming an airplane crash in Egypt which remains suspicious.)
9. When cruising this thread, take special note of Cindy's posts with links (updated daily, & usually in red, for easy identification.) A comprehensive wealth of knowledge where you'll find almost everything you need to know. And to complete the package, take note of Pegita's prayers.
10. Last but certainly not least, make a point of seeking out any and all posts by NW Arizona Granny. Down-home survival tips delivered in an inimitable style, with lots of homespun wisdom thrown in for good measure. She's a treasure, and a welcome addition to this thread.
Well, that's all folks. Be prepared and be alert. Arm yourselves with knowledge, for to be forewarned is to be forearmed. But do not live in fear, for if we cower in the corners, then we cede victory to those who would do us harm.
Instead, be thankful for all we enjoy in this wonderful land of ours. Go now and take the hand of a loved one, step outside into the chill night air, look up into the wonderment of God's evening sky, share a hug and say a prayer. A prayer of thankfulness for all we have, and for those who protect it.

THREAD SUMMARY #3
Posted by liberallyconservative to txflake; All
On General Interest (Chat) 01/18/2004 6:09:08 PM CST #12,186 of 15,468
A humble attempt at another THREAD SUMMARY:
Back in early Nov. 2003, a person posting to this forum under the name "daleel almojahid" posted a warning that AQ was again threatening NY, Wash. DC & LA. The thread was yanked almost immediately, but was posted again a short time later from the DEBKA source. Although many have questioned the credibility of said source, the subsequent events have proven that many at the upper levels of our nation's security have indeed taken these threats seriously.
So... here goes an abridged version of the past 2 or so months, and near 12,000 posts.
1. Google searches of "daleel almojahid" led to some very interesting connections being made. A Twexus site came to the forefront of the discussion; it contained over 21,000 images that, when search terms were entered, would produce random but often disturbing images. The site owner has denied any terrorist connection, and this is surely the case, but it is highly likely that the site had been "hijacked" by jihadists as a means of communicating, since it seems that certain terms had been cached to produce certain images. Of critical interest were images of a 747, the Luxor in Las Vegas (image taken several years ago) and the Staples Center in LA. Northeast Intelligence Network (NEIN) has since then claimed that this site was in fact being used by jihadists to communicate with one another.
2. References have been inferred to other cities besides NY, LA & DC. These include Las Vegas, Chicago & Houston, and FReepers are sure other cities as well are considered to be targets, and remain at high alert.
3. Another website discovery was of a clock counting backwards, as if counting down to some event. When first discovered, the associated text said that NYC would be destroyed in 35 days; this would put zero hour at Feb. 1/2, 2004. This find was reported by an Italian newspaper as front page news, but the US media continues to not report the majority of terrorist threats. The BBC has also commented on the lack of coverage by the US media.
4. Since the first posting, much research has led to the discovery of numerous postings by "daleel." Whether a real person or not, their threats have led us to a greater understanding of the fact that the internet is WIDELY used by jihadists and Islamic extremists to spread messages of hate and to communicate with one another. The use of message boards by AQ as a means of communication has been verified. And we have also become aware that there are literally thousands of these websites in existence. (For an unbelievable source of info on this, look for Cindy's links throughout this thread. They are easily identifiable by being posted in red, and provide a wealth of info.)
5. A second poster who goes by the moniker "EOM" has been of special interest. This poster had communicated to a woman at the MSNBC posting board on Sept. 10, 2001 a rather chilling message involving song lyrics which seemed to foreshadow the events of 9/11. After several years of silence, this person has begun posting to this woman again. This entire chain of events has been referenced throughout this thread, but can be chronicled in its entirity at the eom_and_daleel group at Yahoo. The woman is a member at this group and has posted her "communications" with EOM.
6. The validity of the current person posting as "EOM" is up for serious debate. The use of multiple proxies to hide their location and identity has been under scrutiny, and many think this current poster is only posing as EOM. There have been serious differences in their style of posts, and the latest posts regarding their travel to Mexico and subsequent crossing into the US has been entirely too straightforward. Cause for concern remains, with the President scheduled to be in NM on Tues., the upcoming State of the Union address, and the Super Bowl in Houston on Feb. 1.
7. The latest verified transmission by Osama bin Laden in Nov. is also cause for great concern. He spoke of his continued hatred for the "great Satan", used this tape as a virtual call to arms to join his "cave of darkness" operation and made specific references to wanting to be martyred in "the belly of the eagle." Most people agree this is a specific reference to the US. Only 14 minutes of this tape was broadcast by Al- Jezeera, leaving 44 minutes unaired and up for much speculation as to what was contained therein. Of special concern is the period between the "Eids", which are significant feasts in Islam. The second "Eid", a feast of sacrifice, occurs Feb. 1/2, and marks the end of the Islamic year 1424.
8. The Dept. of Homeland Security raised our threat level to orange on Dec. 21, citing credible specific intel regarding the hijacking of flights into the US from France, England, and Mexico. Several of these flights were cancelled and many others delayed on Dec.24/25, and again New Year's Eve/New Year's Day. It seems as though France is still far from being a reliable ally in this matter; they first stated that the US was overreacting. It then became known that they may have tipped the terrorists off unwittingly by announcing the cancellations. A "person of interest" did not show up for one of the flights and has not yet been located. Others were questioned by French authorities and released. Since that time, Homeland Security stands by their decision, and has insisted that the threats were specific and credible. It is highly likely that terrorist attacks were averted at this time.
9. It became known after the fact that Homeland Security had sent teams into at least 5 major cities on New Year's Eve with radiological detectors. This points to the fact that the US is seriously considering that an attack using B/C/R weapons (biological/chemical/radiological) is possible.
10. Suitcase nukes have been mentioned as a possibility. Alexander Lebed, a former Soviet authority, had spoken to Congress concerning this very matter. Of 132 suitcase nukes formerly in the possession of Russia, only 48 can currently be accounted for. When asked whether any of these may have been brought into the US, he testified that it was likely. Lebed later died in a helicopter crash in Siberia.
11. The ready availability of biological and chemical agents is a cause for concern. Botulinin and ricin have been in the news recently, with a large amount of ricin having been seized in the possession of two young women in CA close to the Mexican border. The FBI has also offered a reward for any information regarding a letter that was sent in NC containing ricin. And the anthrax letters of Fall 2001 are still seen by many as having been another terrorist attack.
12. There is also a rumor from Mansoor Ijaz on Fox News that bombs containing chemical weapons had been smuggled into Iraq to be used against Coalition Forces, and AQ operatives have been captured/killed in Iraq.
13. Other areas of concern for possible AQ attacks are at sea. It is surmised that AQ has assembled a small "navy" of at least 28 boats, and piracy continues today. Of special concern currently is the disappearance of a large yacht from Charleston Harbor in SC. With a mast over 8 stories tall, it would seem easy to find, but so far has not turned up. Authorities believe it may have been sailed as far as the Caribbean or South America.
14. The Queen Mary 2 sailed from England on Jan. 12 under heavy security, and has already received a bomb threat. It is set to arrive at Fort Lauderdale, FL on Jan. 26, and is considered by some to be a high-profile possible terrorist target.
15. Islamic extremists continue to use conventional means of terror such as suicide bombers in the Middle East, but the latest concern is their use of more unconventional means, such as female suicide bombers, an unheard of precedent that makes their attacks even more unpredictable. Websites have also been discovered which chronicle "jihad for kids", teaching them from infancy how to wage war on the unbelievers.
16. Terrorist cells exist with impunity in many parts of the world; besides the Middle East, areas of concern are Europe (especially England, France, Germany, Poland and the Netherlands), many countries in Africa, the Philippines,Australia, and several South American countries. Of special note is the fact that over 200 terror cells are rumored to be in place within the US.
17. Saudi Arabia continues to be a great concern. The instability of the House of Saud, coupled with a younger generation that has been spoon-fed jihadi propaganda and hatred of the west makes this a continued country of interest. Also, AQ training camps are said to have existed in Saudi Arabia.
18. Pakistan is also greatly troubling. With a nuclear program in place, and the ready availability of this knowledge for sale on the black market, which points to an unbelievably lax security, AQ and other terrorist groups could buy virtually anything they need for C/B/R attacks, if they have the money and the means. And even though the US has attempted to cut off AQ funding, at least from within this country, recent prosecutions point to the fact that we have been far from successful in that area.
19. Gold prices went on a whirlwind ride so far this January, and concerns were raised that this may have been an early indicator of market manipulation much like that which took place prior to 9/11.
20. Serious security lapses in the US continue to be pointed out. A few examples on this seemingly endless list are: a Sudanese passenger arrested at Heathrow airport with live ammo, after having departed Dulles in Washington, DC; 200 missing keys at Los Alamos; a man on the National No Fly List attempts to board a plane in Boise and was not apprehended; & numerous security lapses at airports around the country. Security lapses have also been pointed out at the White House, National Mall, and at various research labs. It has been reported that security breeches may very well be terrorist tests to probe our vulnerabilities.
21. Our borders with Canada and Mexico are continued cause for concern, with illegal aliens pouring across the borders virtually unchecked. Very troubling is the fact that AQ's chief bomb-making expert is rumored to be in Mexico, but authorities have yet to locate him.
22. Libya's agreement to dismantle their nuclear program is still puzzling, and it is still believed that Iraq smuggled their WMD into Syria. OBL is rumored to be in Iran, which makes the majority of the ME a continued question mark.
In conclusion, we must all remain vigilant. We must keep our eyes and ears open, for our nation's well-being depends on it. Individual citizens like ourselves can and do make the difference. And we must pursue knowledge, because to be forewarned is to be forearmed.
Please feel free to make additions/corrections as you see the need.

FOLKS, I NEED AN ANSWER!
This si going to sound absolutely insane, but I've come to know the quantity and quality of the researchers who inhabit this thread.
I am going to ask y'all to put aside your petty gripes for a few minutes, and read this post.
At or about 2145 EST this evening, my wife, The Missus, was participating in an AOL chat room. One of the chatters explained he was on board an aircraft in flight.
As the chat thread progressed, this flyer began posting small blurbs, like, "The plane's getting rougher", and "It's jinking a lot." Then one final post, "The cockpit doors have slammed shut." Then nothing.
The rest of the chatters, Missus included, began poinging this person, but there was no response. Missus says the last post was about 2200 EST.
The poster claims to have been "over blue water" at the time.
Now Folks, a storm starts with a slight breeze. If Missus was just eye-witness to something going on with an in-flight plane, then I need to know a few things:
- Has anyone seen any wire or cable reports, or breaking news, of an down aircraft, within the last 90 minutes? Time of incident I'd estimate about 2200 EST;
- I need to be educated here: what restrictions/limits are there for Internet use on board a commercial flight? I know that domestic carriers forbid cel phone use, except for certain times like final approach, or something, but is there any way for someone to use wireless Web on a flight?
- It sounds to me like this was a domestic flight, or possibly, given the "blue water" reference, an international flight that was in the corridor for landing.
I'm at home, finally, away from my desk at the Ops Center, and my access to stuff is severely curtailed. I request the help of alert FReepers to confirm/deny/debunk all what I've just heard.
Thanks In Advance,
SARGE
