I believe NEST (and other related agencies) have RAD detectors.

Nukes leave some kind of signature trail as they are moved around (unless encased in lead, which makes them VERY heavy and nearly unmovable) - I believe they are Gamma rays in nature.

Heck, I even have my own personal "RAD detector" (NukAlert) on my keychain right now. Handy little contraption.

So, dirty bomb or nuke goes off..and I know one way or the other if the radiation has hit my area, and how much we are being exposed to. Sure would rather know than not, so we can decide to evacuate or stay put.

NEST has them. they were dispatched over the xmas/new years period to "street scan" major US cities. and satellites can also detect radiation. and there is also radiation detection along major highways, near entrances to NYC bridges and tunnels, they use helicopters with radiation sensors to "sniff" inbound cargo ships while still at sea, etc.

basically, you are incorrect if you think the only line of defense we have is the TSA worker at airport check in.

chem/bio is another story, but NYC subways have anthrax detection, but of course it has to be released first.

I really don't think the power will go out if something happens. They want us to see everything and be terrified!! But, they have neglected to plan for our retaliation like last time.

My point exactly.

I think that the public is depending too much on the gov't to insure their security. Our country, our borders, our laws, and our immigration policy are all so porous, it's impossible to plug every hole.

I personally think that if we had coverts in place like our operative forces do, we would have the same information the gov't does. That's the only difference between HSA and us.

Where does the gov't get their information? I'm willing to bet it's the same place we do.

I really think it's EXTREMELY strange there is nothing on drudge about the flight cancellations. And that the one story that was run today, was on just briefly and then apparently pulled. Something is definitely brewing.

not really. there are backchannels, recall Christopher Hitchens reporting that he was "tipped" about a nuclear threat against NYC shortly after 9/11 (he ignored it). Too bad we don't have any freepers on the roads to Mt Weather to see if there was some "strange" movement of congress people and their families.

If I had seen the stock market crash on Friday, I'd be more worried right now then I am (that's not to say I am not concerned).
