Report: New credible terror threats

WASHINGTON, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- The Department of Homeland Security has received new credible threats of airliner hijackings that could force more canceled flights, CBS reported Friday.

Although there are no plans at present to raise the terror threat level back to "orange," precautions are being taken, homeland security officials tell CBS.

The latest threats are similar to those over the Christmas holiday period that suggested attempts would be made to hijack British Air and Air France jetliners flying into the United States for possible attacks against Washington and Los Angeles.

Several flights British Air flights were either delayed or canceled during that period while the threat level was elevated a level.

The threats to use international flights to the United States for suicide attacks come during a period of high security precautions to protect the Houston site of Sunday's Super Bowl.

British Airways Cancels 3 U.S. Flights

LONDON (AP) - British Airways (BAB) has canceled three flights from Heathrow Airport to Washington, D.C., and Miami because of security concerns, the airline said Saturday.

BA flight 223 to Washington's Dulles airport will not fly on Sunday or Monday, but is to depart on schedule at 3:05 p.m. Saturday, said an airline spokeswoman. Flight 207 to Miami will not fly on Sunday, she said.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- In the past 48 hours, the United States has received new intelligence that suggests a threat of possible terrorist attacks against the United States using aircraft, government officials told CNN on Friday.

The intelligence also mentioned Air France and British Airways flights to the United States. British Airways Flight 223 was mentioned specifically. That flight was canceled twice in early January based on previous intelligence from an informant and other sources.
