Help French Libertarians
Posted on 01/26/2004 6:55:32 AM PST by Sabine
Dear FReepers,
I know I've not posted here for a long time. I'm coming back to ask your help.
As you know, France might be one of the least collectivit countries. Yet some groups try to reform the county. The task is hard yet not impossible.
I think some of you heard about the association I'm leading, called "Liberté j'écris ton nom" (freedom I write your name: www.liberte-cherie.com) which led a huge rally in Paris last June to protest against the civil-servants' strikes that keep crippling the country any time a shy government try to attempt a small reform. 80 000 people gathered in Paris in favour of libertarian reforms (I think you've read of this rally in the daily Telegraph or on this website).
Our association has now grown pretty much (we represent 2000 registered-members and another 10 000 who support us financially) and we go on acting in France. Yet, as you know, being libertarian in France is rather hard (all the more that we refuse state-funding).
If you'd like to see another face for France, please help us. You can contact me at sabine@liberte-cherie.com
Thank you very much,
Sabine HEROLD

I can send all that by mail If you want.
Thank you very much!

Interesting.
I always wondered if there were any French Freepers.
Are you aware that the "Libertarians" on this forum are primarily interested in the freedom to take drugs, generally at the expense of those interested in keeping their community free from the ill effects of abuse?
Are you aware that the "Libertarians" on this forum are generally in favor of socialized medicine so that there is a safety net in place to take care of those who are not quite so tolerant to the addictive nature of recreational drugs? Are you aware that the "Libertarians" on this forum are mostly in favor of the kind of open borders that France and socialized Europe has?
In other words - the Libertarians on this forum are in awe of the socialized French government.
So - by any chance by "French Libertarian" do you mean a French citizen who wants liberty or French citizens who want legalized drugs? They are quite different.

Make you a deal; find me one self-described L/libertarian on FR who likes the idea of socialized medicine, and I'll never post again.

This thread is going to be hilarious. A bunch of Bush-bots are going to show up and accuse libertarians of all people of wanting big government, at the same time their guy is growing government bigger and faster in 3 years than Clinton did in 8.
Sabine, you'll quickly find out many on this site don't like small government one bit.

Being Franc about it, if there are not enough French people willing to monetarily help your cause, then begging for freeloader money from foreigners is hardly going to help you.
The leader of the Libertarian Party here is a financial advisor who filed for bankruptcy. Perhaps he can point out how to sell $40 lawn signs to the true believers.

"In other words - the Libertarians on this forum are in awe of the socialized French government." Are you aware that most of the "libertarians" on this site are not large L libertarians?
Are you aware that while many small L libertarians favor the legalization of many drugs, that is not their primary interest, but merely a result of their primary interest, which is the individual freedom, the same interest cherished by our founding fathers.
Are you aware that Sabine considers herself a "classical liberal," very much what our founders were, and actually something close to a small L libertarian?
I suggest that your position, with its apparent love of central authority, actually has more in common with socialism.
