FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COMBINED FORCES COMMAND AFGHANISTAN RELEASE
KABUL, Afghanistan -- In coordination with the Islamic Transitional Government of Afghanistan, Combined Forces Command-Afghanistan continues to train the Afghan National Army, provide civil affairs support, and disrupt, deny, and destroy terrorist and anti-ITGA forces in order to establish a stable and secure Afghanistan.
As an example of the continuing cooperation between the people of Afghan and the coalition, an Afghan citizen led Coalition Forces to a weapons cache near Jalalabad. The cache consisted of several hundred 82mm mortar rounds, 100 rockets, and small arms rounds.
Another cache was uncovered by 10th Mountain Soldiers west of Ghazni. Coalition forces found hundreds of mortar rounds and 107mm rockets in an underground cave. The munitions were transported to a firebase for eventual destruction.
As part of the continuing effort to rid this country of dangerous munitions, Afghan militia forces cleared 52 anti-personnel mines from a minefield east of Khowst.
A medical team from the Kandahar Provincial Reconstruction Team provided routine medical services to more than 100 villagers of Osmanzai. The team also distributed more than 100 boxes of food, clothing, and blankets as well as school supplies.
