CERP Funds, Civil Affairs Prove Vital In Rebuilding, Securing Iraq
RAMADI, Iraq--The Commanders Emergency Relief Program (CERP) has distributed funds throughout all of Iraq. In the Al Anbar province, these funds from Task Force "All American" have proven to be vital in the reconstruction and stabilization of Iraq.
In Habbaniyah, civil affairs personnel with 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, paid $23,400 in CERP funds to renovate six schools. They dispensed $3,200 in CERP funds for initiation of a grounds maintenance and janitorial contract for the 85 schools and 15 government buildings in the area. These projects will employ over 200 Iraqis and positively impact approximately 14,000 Iraqi students.
Civil affairs teams working with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment used $48,000 in CERP funds to purchase three medium trucks for the Iraqi Civil Defense Corps (ICDC). This purchase is part of an ongoing initiative to provide ICDC soldiers with transportation assets for both combat and administrative purposes.
Iraqis and Task Force "All American" civil affairs personnel are continuing to make positive changes and progress for the future of Iraq.
Civil affairs personnel from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team implemented a new system to improve communications between coalition forces and the Iraqi Police. The new system places radios at critical Iraqi police locations while maintaining a base station at Forward Operating Base Chosin. This system will greatly enhance coordination and response times of coalition forces when in support of the Iraqi police.
Task Force "All American" is supporting these initiatives by continuing to fund civil projects and providing the needed equipment and training for the Iraqi security forces, which will lead to the ultimate goal of a safe and stable Iraq.
