HIT, Iraq -
Members of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, part of Task Force "All American" discovered a taxicab selling black market fuel in the city of Hit on Friday afternoon.

The driver of the vehicle fled as the patrol approached the taxi. The patrol confiscated the taxicab along with 250 gallons of black market fuel and turned them over to the local Iraqi Police.

I'll prabably get flamed for this, but it looks to me like one of 'the people' has lached onto free enterprise.

As an aside ... the report reads like a Rush SUV account ... The taxicab was the one selling and consequently was 'arrested' and turned over to Iraqi police ... apperently for interrogation ...

"Awright, you ... where'dya get that fuel and how'dya get 250 gallons of it into your back seat ... hmmmm?"

Anyone that burns oil for heat (as I do) knows how large a 275 gallon tank is.

You are absolutely right! Black markets are only possible where there is government oppression of the free market. But, you forget, we are not in Iraq to promote "freedom," we're in Iraq to promote "democracy." Some idiots think they are the same thing, which is the reason we keep loosing more and more freedom, and why, if the American government is successful in it's intentions in Iraq, the people of Iraq will never be free. (It will probably be a "nicer" kind of oppression than before, however.)

Unfortunately, the story does not say where the oil came from. It was probably stolen, in which case the crime should be theft, not black-marketeering.
