***I mean, would anyone want to spend time at work if they didn't have to, when they could be spending time raising and teaching joyful children instead?***

How nice it is to read an upbeat article like this one. Here's to little Jessica's future as a Republican!!
My daddy's a FRD Democrat, but raised 5 *very* Republican children. So anything's possible.

"What I make of it is what an incredibly decent man our president is and how lucky we are to have him. I may not agree with all of his policies but then I don't have to. It has never been a mark of someones worth how much they agree with you.
I think America has been blessed that each time in history we have been challenged a great man has stepped up to the plate."
You're comments capture my thoughts exactly (and what an absolutely precious little girl)!!

JJJ could have arranged a private visit.....But this way: His constituency knows that someone in the Jackson house love "W" and the rat's may get the message that the African American community is not a sure thing.

Instead, not only was the child allowed to attend, but she was allowed to sit on the aisle where Bush could grab her up in a hug and plant a big kiss on her cheek, knowing that the cameras were rolling. Although I'm sure that Jackson was a more than willing accomplice, this never would have happened without Bush's approval.Do you really think that Bush directly oversees the details of the arrangments for the State of the Union Address? I would think it's the staffers of the Congress that deal with it, considering that Bush has a lot more important things to worry about as to whether or not a Congressman brings his daughter.

"Do you really think that Bush directly oversees the details of the arrangments for the State of the Union Address?"With an election coming up and the SOTU being a prime time nationally televised appearance, yes I do think that Bush would be apprised of such a detail. Rules were broken and security measures were altered to allow this child to be there.......and Bush was placed in the national spotlight hugging and kissing the grandchild of a nationally known political opponent. I don't think that something like that would have been sprung on the president unexpectedly.

I'm going to take the article at face value.
I watched the SOTU, and that precious little girl was thrilled to meet and hug President Bush. Did you see her face? That was pure joy. And they cut to her several times during the speech, and she was happily clapping along.
Just ONCE, during this nasty, mean, political season, I'm opting to believe the story - and ulterior motives be damned.

Has Bush ever once in his entire political career ever been described as a micromanager?

Poor little girl will enventually be corrupted by her father. Hopefully she'll be strong enough to resist.
