FREEPORT -- A security guard at a BASF Corp. chemical plant was shot in the shoulder after he approached a suspicious truck and talked to a man who said he had been taking pictures, authorities said.
The guard's name was not released, but Freeport police said he was doing well at a Brazosport hospital following the Friday night shooting.
The guard told police the gunman had bushy hair and a mustache and was was driving a white pickup with tinted windows and a black stripe.
BASF spokeswoman Sharon Rogers said there was no indication the shooting was linked to terrorism.
"We'll just have to see what the investigation will reveal," she told The Brazosport Facts for a story today.
FBI officials in Houston confirmed they were notified of the shooting but would not comment further.
The suspect left after the shooting and did not get inside the plant. The guard had been patrolling the plant's perimeter, outside the gate and near a water tower, but in view of the plant's ammonia tank, officials said.
The injured guard managed to drive to the nearest plant gate, where an off-duty sheriff's deputy working security at the plant called police.

Terrorism.....or major meth manufacture. Not much difference, if you ask me.

Sight-seeing tourists with cameras and guns...always a bad mix.
People don't take pictures, cameras do.

See, this should have been the other way around. "Security guard shoots man photographing chemical plant" would make me feel much better.

BASF spokeswoman Sharon Rogers said there was no indication the shooting was linked to terrorism. The let me logically infer for you Shmoron Rogers - man shoots guard over photos, truck w/tinted glass, bushy hair, mustache, flees the scene. I'd say this has all the "indication"(s) of terrorism.

I swear, if we hadn't all seen it on TV, they would have claimed that 9/11 was a pair of navigational errors. After the second plane struck the trade center, I was listening to 77 AM WABC in NY. I remember that while Curtis and Kooby were covering the event, one of them said that the FBI was putting out a statement that the cause of the crashes could be due to some navigational beacon or some other such nonsense. Then after the 3rd plane hit the pentagon this was of course dropped. Am I the only one who heard this?

Oh, for Pete's sake...wait until an investigation is done.
The injured guard managed to drive to the nearest plant gate, where an off-duty sheriff's deputy working security at the plant called police.
Was there a witness to the shooting? Was the guard armed? Was he bored?
We had a township constable wounded here a couple of years ago. He was so bored while patrolling at night (and so unprofessional), he played around with his weapon and shot himself accidentally! He reported that drug thugs had surprised him and shot him...and he'd emptied his weapon returning fire. Unfortunately, ballistics revealed the weapon to be his own.
He's still serving time for filing a false police report.
Relax and wait to see if this builds into something.

I'm with you!
We didn't used to have this kind of stuff reported before 9/11. Seems as if they have us figured!
The terrorists organizations have caught on to our "PC" way of doing things and turn their spying around on us.
Accusing us of anything they can think of, then proceeding away from the scene.
Now this has led to a shooting. Maybe something will get done.....
If it walks like a duck..........and talks like a duck.......WAA LAAA!!! Guess what?

If this was John F'in Kerry's brother that had been shot, the Patriot Act would suddenly be something we have to have!

It's not that they feel we can't handle the truth. It's that they don't have hard answers on how to deal with the situation, so they avoid placing pressure on themselves by keeping up the pretence.

Do you mean shot as in caught breaking into the basement of someone's campaign headquarters?
