ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has decided to test several
indigenous missiles in a bid to restore the strategic balance upset by India when it test fired its missiles last month, Online news agency reports.
The testing will begin in late March and continue till early April, defence officials said.
"Pakistan has decided to give a befitting response to India for its experimentation. Pakistan will test fire its Ghauri and Shaheen missiles," a defence official said.
The missiles are indigenously made and have surface-to-surface and surface-to-air capabilities, besides being capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
Pakistani nuclear scientists are busy conducting tests for the launches.
Pakistan would not buckle to pressure from India or the US on the issue, the officials said.
President Pervez Musharraf is being kept posted on the preparations for the tests, to be conducted from coastal areas in Balochistan and Karachi.

No doubt about it, missile defense R&D is rapidly becoming imperative.
Of course, we could take the Albright approach and soft talk the proliferating nations into stifling their missile agenda./sarcasm

Hmmm, thanks for the post.

I've said it before... Pakistan and North Korea are proxy terror states sponsored by China to keep India and Japan respectively in check. Something is terribly wrong when a country that can't manufacture a decent bicycle, posesses the technical know-how to launch ballistic missles or detonate an implosion device. Unless the root cause (China) is addressed, this trend will continue.

Agreed that the use of the word "indigenous" twice in the same statement means that they're anything BUT indigenous.
Since they are such staunch allies, perhaps we could inpect these indigenous missiles to determine whether the indigenous scientists crafted them in an indigenous facility.

(Why build one, when you can build two at twice the price?)

Unless the root cause (China) is addressed, this trend will continue.
It's a tip to short this market. India peaked 10 days ago and fell 8% this week and so will the index below.

Your words, while blatantly obvious to some, will go unheard. Sad really, guess we gotta lose some cities first to believe it. Like we had to lose the WTC.
Sad, but that's how it is.
