So... a white African American is not an African American? Is it because he is African or American that he cannot be an African American?

Whites have no rights in the PC/liberal world, and liberals have no sense of humor.

Only in PC America can a person who is an American from Africa be castigated for thinking of himself as an African American. I didn't realize that the Thought Police had copyrighted the phrase.

The officials based their awards on the color of the skin. That's discrimination! Well, if they're going to discriminate, take it one step further: Have one for African-American blacks and one for African-American whites.

So... a white African American is not an African American? Is it because he is African or American that he cannot be an African American? That's right. And Egyptians who have become U.S. citizens are not considered African-American either.
Interesting, isn't it? And here the Left would have us believe that "African-American" has nothing to do with race, but heritage...and when they're caught in that lie, they go completely non-linear.

She said she felt hurt by the posters... If she is "hurt" by a poster, how would she have dealt with the dogs and firehoses her predecessors so bravely stood up to???

So - if they want to restrict the award to black students, why don't they call it the Black Student of the Year Award? Was that so hard to say?

See it's like this: if 15 of your great-great-grandparents were born in Europe, and one was born in Georgia, but had great grandparents who were born in Africa, you're African-American.
But if you were born in Africa, and every ancestor of yours for ten generations was born in Africa, and you moved to America and became a citizen, you're not African-American.
Whitey.

I love it! I know a very white woman whose family immigrated here from South Africa when she was a little girl, and she refers to herself as African-American.

Tylena Martin, a junior, said the poster had been on the door to her homeroom class where she is the only black student. She said she felt hurt by the posters and the backlash that ensued. Poor baby get her feelings hurt? There, there nanny state still loves you. They didn't bruise your self esteem did they? No? Well then I'll only suspend them for 2 days.

A fourth student was punished for circulating a petition Tuesday criticizing the practice of recognizing only black student achievement with the awardActually, that would be exactly ythe right way to celebrate the birthday of a man who envisioned an America that judged an individual on the quality of his/her character and not the color of his/her skin. Just makes you want to punch Jesse Jackson in the nose for perverting MLK's message.

I went to high school with a white guy from South Africa who had a black mother...his brother had a much darker complexion, but if you looked at this guy you would never guess. They thought it was weird that blacks here referred to themselves as African Americans.
That also reminds me of a time I was in college and one of my floormates was dating a guy who came here from Mali to go to college. A couple of black students were so intrigued with him and spoke of sharing a bond with him in their African roots. "Aren't you from here?" he would ask, and one of them said yes, but they hoped to "return" to Africa one day to live. He then delivered the following line, deadpan: "Why in the world would you want to do that? Africa sucks! Why do you think I came here?" They were utterly dumbstruck.

He's not even African. He's just a racist, imperialist, colonist who was evicted by the glorious people's rebellion against the European Hegemony. < /leftist rant >
That being said, even a bunch of dumb high school kids should have realized that they were playing with fire.

A white guy from Africa who is called African American is wrong, but it`s OK for Al Sharpton, a guy who grew up in NYC, to call himself African American every two seconds. Just like Halle Berry who was raised alone by her white mother after her black father abandoned her. When she wins the Oscar, she starts screaming and hollering about being the first "African American to win an Oscar." Yeah, nothing wrong with that. Maybe I should start calling myself Chinese American, or how about Chinese-Indian-Irish-African-Mongolian-German-Martian-American.
