Liberals believe every one is a child and we need the government to protect us from all the dangerous stuff out there, including impermissable grace before meals recited before sitting down to eat in a military academy.

Thanks for the ping, Brother Rat. I do hope this ruling is reversed. (On the other hand, the seriousness and sincerity of some of the prayers at SRC -- remember Great God, good food, let's eat! -- was suspect)

You're welcome..

...opening meals with chaplain-led prayer...

I remember it as being cadet led. Has that changed?

They were certainly cadet led "back in the Old Corps [when we really had a Rat Line]" and I think they were cadet led up until the courts stopped the prayers. Can you imagine Chaplain Wilson in the mess hall intoning a prayer at SRC while 1200 hungry cadets stand, smelling the food and waiting to eat? No, neither can I.

The Supreme Court must clear up the confusion, so college students can again be treated like adults.

If they do that, then will they also overturn the 1984 Uniform Drinking Age law that punished states that failed to raise their minimum drinking age to 21 by withholding federal highway money? Doubtful.

I just got back from Lexington myself today....500 miles each way.

I was there to witness an award given in my father's name...(class of 55). I also was asked to say a few words about my dad and on behalf of my family.

I have been going there since I was a little boy back in the early 60s to visit folks. As usual, everyone was so wonderful. I doubt there exists a school that is more deferential to it's alumni and their families....particularly considering I'm an Ole Miss grad.

Parade saturday morning was very very nice (the female cadet barking orders was a bit much but that's another thread...another lost cause). My 3 year old loved the artillery going off..lol

My eyes misted when the bagpipes band played Dixie and When Johnny Comes Marching Home.

What a great institution...dammit...it's a travesty so many utterly vile and weak minded folks have reveled in trying to destroy the place these past 10-20 years...a damned shame. I would be quite proud if one of my two manchildren decided to go and pick back up the legacy.

Regards.

(man, Lexington has sure gotten gentrified)

and one last thing....8 years of Reagan and 4 of Big Bush and 4 of Dubya and all we can muster are 2-3 Supreme Court Justices who even know what the hell a culture war is? that is tragic.....the left is winning thru inertia.

Our present SCOTUS is indeed an indictment of the gutlessness of the RINOs.

Say, I just stumbled over these lyrics by a supposedly under rated UK metal band from the 1980s called "Saxon." I'd like to hear it sometime. Maybe it could become a cult classic among the troops in Iraq?

Crusader Lyrics

Crusader, Crusader, please take me with you
The battle lies far to the East
Crusader, Crusader, don't leave me alone
I want to ride out on your Quest

I'm waiting, I'm waiting, to stand by your side
To fight with you over the sea
The're calling, they're calling, I have to be there
The Holy Land has to be free

Fight the good fight (*)
Believe what is right
Crusader, Lord of the Realm
Fight the good fight
With all your might
Crusader, Lord of the Realm

We're marching, we're marching to a land far from home
No-one can say who'll return
For Christendom's sake, we'll take our revenge
On the pagan from out of the East

We Christians are coming, with swords held on high
United by Faith and the cause
The Saracen heathen will soon taste our steel
Our standards will rise 'cross the land

(Repeat *)

To battle, to battle, the Saracen hordes
We follow the warrior king
Onward, ride onward, into the fight
We carry the sign of the cross

Warlords of England, Knights of the Realm
Spilling their blood in the sand
Crusader, Crusader, the legend is born
The future will honour your deeds
(Repeat *)

Great cover art! I'll bet it's awesome at full LP record size! It would make great leaflet material for some units in Iraq. Give them nightmares in Fallujah. Photoshop in an American flag.

That's wonderful! How proud you must be to be able to speak for your family on such an auspicious occasion. I know your daddy would be very proud of you.

I had no idea your dad was a grad of VMI. It IS a great institution, and it's been sad to watch these grand military universities be swallowed up in such PC drivel.

Hubby is a Va. Tech grad (A.E. '69). He ended up in the Navy. ;o)

That doesn't look like Frazetta's work. Who is it?

Beats me. One of many Frazetta wannabees of the era, I'm guessing.

Are you sure the pipers were playing Dixie? The Regimental Band played it on parade (and always during the march down Letcher Avenue on New Market Day) when I was a cadet, but around 1975, I'm told, the black cadets objected and it was replaced by (of all things) The Bonnie Blue Flag. Last I heard from Col. Hammond, that was still the song used on parade and New Market Day.

I should have clarified.

As they were gearing up and approaching from down between the chapel and the barracks, they did a few minutes menage of both Dixie and Johnny.

I was suprised and loved it.

I had a little spat with a lady down in the bookstore as well I must confess. They had out 9 anti-Bush and anti-Conservative books on the front display and 2 Conservative(?) books...one by Hannity and one about The Passion. I asked her who picked out their books....she said she did....whoops...big gaff on my part.

Needless to say she was a bit icy, even though we spent way too much money on "VMI stuff" for everybody down there.

PC is a cancer that has infected everywhere I fear....and I mean everywhere.
