[history]
Several top Republicans candidates seeking to oust Barbara Boxer from her two-term reign as California senator gathered for the first time Thursday at a forum where they stressed the need to tighten the nation's borders and cut taxes.
More than 200 people attended the forum, which was sponsored by the Republican Jewish Coalition of Los Angeles. It marked an important opportunity for the candidates -- several of whom remain largely unknown -- to lay out their platforms before the March 2 election.

I'm supporting Howard Kaloogian in the primary and I'll support whomever wins the primary. Boxer must be defeated.

This story has the essential essence of why I support Kaloogian:
* Conservative Republican
* Only Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in California who has opposed the "amnesty on the installment plan" proposed by the White House
* Served in the State Assembly from 1994-2000 and stuck to the pledges he campaigned on. Perfect record of anti-tax votes (endorsed by the Gann Taxpayer Organization and National Tax Limitation Committee because of this). Perfect Pro-Life voting record (endorsed by Eagle Forum, Conservative Women for America and Dr. James Dobson because of this). Perfect pro-gun voting record (endorsed by Gun Owners of California and Gun Owners of America because of this).
And my favorite part of the article... demonstrating how Kaloogian is a leader WHO GETS THINGS DONE WHEN OTHERS SAY "YOU CAN'T WIN":
"Kaloogian, 44, who is less well known than his opponents, was also a leader in the campaign to recall former Gov. Gray Davis and recently made headlines when he organized a boycott of CBS over a controversial TV movie about the Reagans."
This is the ONLY candidate who can beat Barbara Boxer. We need a fighter who can overcome tough opponents and ONLY Kaloogian has proven he can do this.

Let's hope we retire Davis and Boxer all in the space of a year (Recall - Oct. 2003, Boxer - Nov. 2004)

Good point on the fighter.
I don't think Jones, Casey or Marin are the fighter types. Israel has survived because people were willing to stand up for what was right.
Kaloogian is the only one of the candidates you can count on to do that.

I LOVE that, Norm: Special K.
Can we possibly be supporting the same candidate this time?

Beides all the qualifications already listed, Kaloogian has the can-do attitude and realistic optimism of Ronald Reagan. He can win!

I hope he wins. I've called to volunteer.
Some idiot on another thread, opined that he couldn't win because of his surname. Allrighteeeeee. LOL. Think *Schwarzenegger* and Kaloogian sounds like Smith.

KTVU 2 10pm news just did a quick segment on Howard.
A nice 2 minute or so piece, not withstanding Channel 2 is a leftist leaning station for the most part.

Got to see Howard Kaloogian, Bill Jones, and Danney Ball at a CRA gathering in Santa Clara last Saturday. They each addressed the lunch crowd and took questions. Even got a chance to talk to each of them one-on-one. Hopefully I've just shaken the hand of the next senator. :-)

Kaloogian, 44, who is less well known than his opponents
Other than Jones, he's no less known than Marin or (especially) Casey.

I'm all about BILL JONES. Kaloogian sounds like a good guy but I disagree with him on immigration and I don't think he can win. I had hoped Rosario Marin would turn out to be better than all this "look at me, I'm pro-abortion" crap.

Impeach - just a little advice on "categories", remember to add US:California and maybe cut down on the rest of the categories. I think it helps keep the forum a little more ordered if you just pick the one, two, or three subject categories that best fit the post. (Not that anyone else does that . . .)
Also, Everyone, as long as I'm pontificating, remember to visit the CAMPAIGN CENTRAL forum (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-campaign2002/browse to check out articles on the 2004 house, senate, governor, etc races.

I doubt it.
As of now, I'm voting for Jones, but unenthusiastically.
Howard just doesn't do it for me. It's not the politics, it's the lame-factor with listing defendreagan.org as one of his more recent, "major" accomplishments.
