As early as tomorrow, the House Judiciary committee will be considering House Bill HR2824. In fact, this bill is listed to be considered for online mark up on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at 10:00am.
Why is this important? Because its sister bill, S1177, which has already passed in the Senate eliminates your right to order cigars by mail!
It is critical that all cigar smokers email, phone or fax these representatives and request that "cigars" and "all other tobacco products" NOT BE ADDED TO HR2824.
A lot of you had problems with the email addresses in our previous email. Here is a revised list along with some fax numbers that were kindly passed along to us.

What about shipping UPS?
I am sitting awaiting a shipment from Thompson's right now.
My local cigar store charges twice the Thompson's price.

Thompson's is more expensive than JR or Mike's, unless you happen to like one of Thompson's house brands.

JR is only $2 shipping for each item and it gets here in 3 days. It's great and the prices are nuts!
Finished my cigar and coffee---I hear Scotch calling as we head towards 4 degrees here in West. PA

Do you know the whole story behind this?
Did someone attach a rider to the senate bill?
Has it passed full senate or just committee?
Did it come up in the House committee yet?
Who's pushing it and for what?
This completely got thru my perimeter...dammit....I can't remember being so pissed.
Forget friggin migra-amnesty or renewing the assault weapons ban.....I AM VERY VERY ANGRY.
I will be leaving messages and e-mails all nite and tommorrow.
This makes no friggin sense.
Damn, ain't it great when our side is "in power". Why should we even be having this conversation right now? Traitors...
BOLLOCKS!

My LGC sticks are about 80 bucks a box from Mikes. I buy on average two/month. Double Coronas EMS and cut them into two robustos per day....one for morning and one for evening...given the time. I have a large glass humidor with about 100 boxes of collectibles like old Trinidads and Bolivars and Sancho Panzas....aside from La Glorias and their second label El Credito, that is about all I like to smoke now. If it don't sting the nose, I don't want it.
A box of La Gloria Double Coronas at one of Nashville's tobbaco joints if I could find them would be probably 150-200/box and that will go up sharply if this ban takes effect.
I'm literally flabbergasted. I had no clue. What is their point and how is this intrusion gaining ground in "our" Congress?

"Luckily we have the Republicans in power, and as men of principle, they'd allow no such bill to pass."So very true!
So why are we all so worried?
GOP is a conservtive reduce spending and taxes party... right?

I don't know the answer to any of your questions, daddy. All I know is that I e-mailed every one of these congressmen.
Wow. You've got quite a collection of "collectibles." My goodies are a box of Cubans somebody brought back about five years ago (Bolivars), and a box of Montecristo #2s (Torpedoes) which I go through in six months of "special occasions," then replenish.

In an ironic twist, it will become easier here in Music City to buy sealed documented boxes of Cuban sticks than my cherished La Glorias....
I have lots of old boxes. I just put them back...somebody wants one and I give em out. I also keep some old El Rey del Mundos and even some 55 year old Te-Amos...yep...a stick that I normally would loathe ...well, with 55 years on it has become one of the best smokes I've ever had.
I just wonder how this got started.
What's next?
Ammo, vintage wine by the case....the list is endless.
It makes no sense. If they are trying to save the kids..lol...I doubt many 16 year olds are sitting around buying and smoking boxes of premium handrolls....well maybe at Exeter or Choate but you know what I mean.
I will have to bribe cigar store owners to let me buy 10 boxes at a time for maybe 10-20% premium over wholesale.
Eureka....I'll just start my own damed cigar/wine/beer joint...eff em. I've got the land and capital...bastards.
Maybe I should throw in a titty bar while I'm at it...lol

Do you know the whole story behind this? I don't know much more than what I've read here on FR. The other thread I linked to has some guesses.
The bright side of such a ban might be that you have to shop off shore from someone who sells Cubans. (I buy some from time to time when I'm out of the country with mixed results, so I'm not sure this is really a blessing.) My understanding is than we cannot keep mail-order drugs out so I doubt that they are really going to go after cigars.

vintage wine by the case....Due to the very tight distributor network in Texas, I can't get cases of wine delivered from out of state.
So, I'm locked out of vintages from small vineyards not available in liquor stores in Texas.

I always liked the Hemingway series....those little bitty fatboys were fun....shortsomething?
I don't know....I just got home and my wife asked me who died?
She could tell I was very unhappy. I know Marsha Blackburn..she's a quasi-neighbor....if she voted for this....her staff will hear from me.
Damn....I've been a broken glass idgit for over two decades now....why should we even have to worry about tripe like this from our own ranks?

I'm not overly impressed with the Cubans I've had, when we're out of the country on cruises and such. Maybe they weren't kept in ideal conditions, I don't know.
But the Montecristo is the best cigar I've ever smoked, Cuban or otherwise.

I had success buying Cubans from Toronto and Mexico online. I always bought from La Habana suppliers just like if I was overseas myself...that or Dunhill or Davidoff. I used to could buy COD from Cubamall.com a few years back.
Now, it's so easy to find them here so I don't bother. Evrybody has them and the ATF here at least don't consider it a priority over gacklabs and tweakers....or guns unfortunately.
My palate is so tuned to LGC that I don't cotton much to creamy or Conneticut shades like I used to and only like a few Cubans...the strong ones I mentioned earlier....Bolivar, Trinis, and Panza....maybe Por Larranaga.
