Public School Help Needed!

Posted on 01/22/2004 10:12:03 AM PST by ninergold3

I've never started a post on here so forgive me if I've put this in the wrong place. I need some serious help. My 17 year old son (who lives away from home @ a boys center in Sonoma) is a Senior @ Sonoma Valley High School. I just found out yesterday that they are reading Michael Moore's book in their Civics class. My son is taken with this guy and went into how the Supreme Court stopped the Florida count when it looked like AlGore was going to win. I am FUMING! I'm going to speak with the teacher but I get really flustered when I do stuff like this. Can my Freeper friends help me with some facts and talking points so I don't sound like an idiot when speaking with this teacher? I appreciate any help you can give me.

Well, since he's 17 and in a boys center, you can disgard the homeschooling. Also,he is now in custody of the state,so there really isn't much you can do.On the bright side of this though,is the fact that he IS 17 and he did sign up for the military. Most kids at 17 have no idea what their political view is going to be when they reach adulthood,so I wouldn't worry too much about this. The Navy will straighten his behavior problems out or at least try to.He's going to have to want to do it himself though and I'm afraid there's not much you can do at this point.Good luck in whatever you decide to do and good luck to your son also.

BTW,I wasn't an angel at 17.I turned out just fine though.

The best book on the subject of the 2000 election--by far and without peer--is Bill Sammon's book At Any Cost: How Al Gore Tried to Steal the Election.

It will easily refute any point Moore tries to make. It will refute any of the canards you STILL hear being raised about the vote-counting process.

Bill Sammon is a Washington Times reporter. I myself am writing a novel based (in part) on the 2000 election, and so I just happened to follow the events rather closely. Sammon does a SUPERB job and will refute that garbage of Moore's better than anything else--even better than the more popular and better known (and excellent, I might add) Coulter book. The reason for this is that Coulter cast a broad net, but Sammon is concerned only with the election. HTH.

Actually, he is in our custody. We pay to have him in this school so we still a bit of control. It has been a blessing to have this place and we've had very little to question. However, during the last couple years he's been taking some of the core classes at the local High School and that's where I begin to question things.

On the plus side, the principal at the local elementary school was happy to see my daughter move to middle school. Every time I questioned something she cringed. :)

This brings up a recent concern of mine - my 3 children in 2,4, & 5 grades (all in honors classes) in public school in Texas have been indoctrinated for the last two weeks re Martin L King - even to the point of doing home projects on him. I'm not saying it's bad to learn about him but last night at the dinner table I learned they know even more about him than I do. Then I asked them what they know about George Washington. Three blank questioning little faces....... Is it me or is something wrong here?

Oh!In that case, get him out of that school ASAP.Best thing I ever did was take my daughter out of public school and put her in private school. No political doctrine from any of the teachers and core values are taught and enforced.Best of luck to you! :)

Quack and All -

Thank you so much for all of your help. I used quite a bit of "Blood of Tyrants" post in my email to the teacher. He doesn't like phone calls - too busy you know. . .

I put a read receipt on the message and will let you all know when (if) I get a response.

Sad story. I guess Geo. Washington is considered an irrelevant dead while male in the public schools. Too bad; he was a great man who every kid (and adult) should learn about.
