Extremists will NEVER get to vote FOR anyone. That is the nature of the universe.

Completely wrong.

It was the gun-rights 'extremists' who elected the Republican House in '94. And they were far more effective in implementing a conservative agenda than anything Bush has done.

It was largely those same 'extremists' who defeated Gore in Arkansas and Tennessee in 2000.

Without those 'extremists', as you like to call them, you'd be sitting here bitching about President Gore and his Dimocrat party which has held a 54-year majority in Congress.

Every vote is important. Red-meat conservatism is important.

It's not the mushy party loyalists that win elections. If Bush stood up and promised you Bushbots a Soviet America, you'd quickly swoon and post some drippy photo thread. There is absolutely nothing Bush could do to keep you from voting for him.

More than anything else, elections are about hardcore activists and swing voters. And the parties have to give these two groups a reason to turn out and vote.

Why don't you change your freepname? It is intellectually dishonest to use it when you castigate his supporters and apparently do not represent or agree with many of his positions.

Being from TN, I can tell you that guns weren't even in the top 5 of issues in either case. We thre Sasser out because he was a condescending wad of spit, and we didn't vote for Gore because, well, we generally like sane people.

I know of no statistical evidence to support either of these presumptions.

Indeed, mathematics preclude those presumptions being true. By definition, extremists are a group small in number. You are therefore incorrect.

"It was the gun-rights 'extremists' who elected the Republican House in '94."

Extremists, by their very nature, elect no one, the center elects people.

Proof in the pudding, let the extreme right wing leave the GOP and hold an election, the center's voters may win it. Let the center leave the GOP, hold an election, and there isn't a chance in hell that the GOP will win.
