Minority members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are prepared to "express their concerns" Thursday about President Bush's decision to recess appoint Charles Pickering (search) to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, Democratic sources on the committee told Fox News.

Even as Democrats prepare to cooperate on the Senate floor and decline to filibuster the long-awaited omnibus spending bill, four Democrats on the panel are planning to bring up the issue of Pickering's appointment at the top of a hearing to confirm several non-controversial Bush nominees, the sources said.

The Democrats lied about Judge Pickering. And they have the chutzpah to talk about "fairness and bipartisanship" in judicial nominations when they've blocked an up and down vote in the Senate on the President's nominees. All of whom have the votes to be confirmed save for obstructionist stalling from Charles Schumer and an unrepentant gang of liberal Senators. Schumer is leading a filibuster and then has the gumption to accuse President Bush of thwarting the will of the Senate with a "tactic." Yeah right. Methinks Schumer and company should go look in the mirror.

Let'em keep ticking off the South. FNC's Juan Williams was saying the other day that folks in Mississippi, of all colors, respect and admire Pickering. Those folks will not be amused.

Good point. They still haven't figured out why Democrat Ronnie Musgrove was beaten by Haley Barbour last November.

I expect the only part of the South the Democrats think about is Atlanta, maybe a little bit of Austin and Broward County Fla.

Too true. And look at who're going to be making the statements: Senators from the Northeast and CA. They're preaching to the converted, and turning off everyone else in the process.

Ooops, I forgot Illinois. But that's a blue state, so the same applies.

They are trying to "normalize" the use of the filibuster on judicial nominations. That's why the pubs should have gone nukular and not made the President spend his capital on it. So that this filibuster tactic does not go down as the standard method of opposing nominees.

The new senator from South Carolina gave a moving speech about Pickering. none of the Democrats listened or cared.
Senator Graham has a way with words.

"express their concerns"

IMHO, this is such a wimpy statement.

The Dems appear to have institutionalized a procedural tactic to thwart judicial nominations. "What goes around comes around" but for the moment the tactic needs to be challenged. Bi-partisnship has been pushed over the side by the Democratic Senatorial leadership so an approriate response (without going nuclear) is needed. Recess appointment of Judge Pickering is probably a good start.

Recess appointments of judges rarely make sense. This one did, and the timing was impeccable. Bush is to be commended on his use of this tactic to enable him to exercise his Constitutional duties. I am sure that he did not do it without Judge Pickering's approval, and for that the Judge deserves praise, as well.

Well, they seem to overlook the fact that he would have the votes on the Senate floor. Now how does this make all their colleages look? Like "racists" just like Pickering? The smell is pretty obvious. They don't have to make a stink, they just do.

regards
