New York's Mayor Bloomberg, a dedicated foe of tobacco doesn't like fat either - and he thinks it was fat and not a head injury that killed diet guru Dr. Robert Atkins. Chowing down at a New York firehouse, Bloomberg told firefighters "I don't believe that bull- s- - - - that [Atkins] dropped dead slipping on the sidewalk," Bloomberg said eating low fat bow-tie pasta, chicken and vegetables with FDNY Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta and a group of Brooklyn firefighters according to the New York Post.
Atkins, whose high protein, low carb diet is the rage across America reportedly died after he suffered severe head injuries in a fall on an icy Manhattan sidewalk last April.
When a firefighter asked the mayor what Atkins looked like when he met him, the mayor replied that "He was fat," adding that he spat out the food he was served at Atkins' home into a napkin because "it was inedible."
Dr. Stuart Trager, a consultant for Atkins, told the Post "We're baffled and dismayed by the mayor's comments. Our hope is that this was just a joke gone bad."
The low-carb, high-protein Atkins diet sparked a revolution, the Post reported, with millions of followers shunning pasta and bread for steaks and sausages. Critics have claimed the high amounts of fat in many recommended foods can lead to high cholesterol and heart attacks.

Do the atkins idiot diet and you will drop dead in ten years from a toxic liver! The Atkins diet has been around for like thirty years. At some point there should have been a wave of this happening, if you were right. It never happened.

That's easy for you to say...from West Virginia. That's where I am NOW. I lived in Manhattan before coming down here (not by choice) and have every intention of returning before the next election.
And I voted for Rudy both times.

Interesting idea. Could be. I think we have a lot of INTJs here on FR.

Do any of youall new yorkers know what happened to the great New York hot dogs with 'skins' the street vendors used to have when I was a kid? Last time I was there, they seemed to have disappeared, and the hot dogs from vendors were not nearly as good, and you didn't have to 'bite' through the skins, and not as good a taste. (still good, but not exceptional like the old ones and the superb NY pizza slice)

New York deserves a total nut like Bloomberg. Except for Rudy, that's their pattern...total nut jobs in the Mayor's office.

Oats, potatoes, rice, pasta, fruit/veggies, no butter/margarine (olive/canola oil), moderate portions of lean meat, etc. is all anyone needs to stay in shape. So for the totality of humanity with all its variations and body types, it's a one diet fits all?

I like the pretzels. No dirty water hotdogs for me, unless I'm hungry or need an intestinal washout.

You think thats bad..on my block earlier this week was a gas repair truck. I was driving my son to school and he had the driver door open as we passed he was taking a piss right into the street. My son laughed but I was totally discusted. If I was not in a rush I would have took the company info and plate and reported the pig.

How amazingly *weird* is this Bloomberg. Many times I've thought we'd be better off with a Dem in his job than a fake Repub.

Atkins has been around since the 70s, yet people have not been "dropping dead" from liver toxicity....odd, no?
The basic premise of Atkins is to cut out the refined foods and sugar. How is that a bad thing?

I think we have a lot of INTJs here on FR Every now and then these threads come up and a vast majority confess to being INTJ ie engineers, analysts, etc. Of course, FR is self-selecting in that it appeals to logic.
To: laredo44
it's a one diet fits all? Basic foodstuffs like rice, corn, wheat, potatoes, oats, nuts, fruits, veggies have been the basis for human diet throughout millions of years.
It's only that last hundred years or so that science figured out a way to (1) preserve food and (2) make it taste better. Stay away from processed foods and you're 50% the way there.
Eat meat about as regularly as our ancestors did ie stumbling across a dead dear and having a feast, then back to hunting and pecking.

LOL - NY pretzels, pretty good, but Ah, for really great pretzels you need to go to Germany, and eat them with German mustard.

Well, I know we do select the liberals (the non-logical) out.

I am sure that the eskimos, finlanders, swedes, norwegians, laplanders, and the desert dwellers really grew up on those diets for thousands of years.
