The economy was today's hot topic, as the President spoke with participants during a discussion on job training and the economy at Owens Community College in Perrysburg Township, Ohio.

He traveled on to Phoenix to attend a discussion on job training and the economy at Mesa Community College, the day after announcing in his State of the Union address a $250 million proposal for new job-training grants channeled through community colleges.

The White House hosted its second "Radio Day" on Wednesday as an opportunity for local and national radio hosts to interview White House officials and Cabinet members. Full story.

Tomorrow, the President's Economic Advisor Greg Mankiw will discuss the economy on Ask the White House tomorrow at 1:30pm. Submit questions here.

Karen Hughes was today's guest on Ask the White House.

Laura Bush spoke to reporters at Discovery Middle School after visiting a seventh-grade Learning Strategies class in Orlando, Florida. She also took part in a roundtable discussion of research-based education methods for literacy challenged students.

Enjoy your daily dose of W, and welcome back to Sanity Island.

Didn't see you here so sent another freepmail.

We're all well but it's quiet here with my husband and son both in Denver. But quiet is OK, too! The weather was really nice today--I think it got up to 50 and was sunny. I keep waiting for some snow . . .

Ah...I seem to remember a certain unOfficial Whitehouse Fashion Consultant that suggested the use of the colored shirt as a good look. --Course that was in the summertime, and I went with the white shirt, dark GQ tie and suit for winter...but you're right, I really thought this was a great combo, too!

We all look out for our great President, knowing that his character makes him handsome way beyond his outfit.

Laura is looking more and more beautiful every day!!!

Last night we were at a restaurant/bar that all the heads of the Republican Party and Bush Campaign were at, watching the President in action. Hubby and I were interviewed again. The reporter wanted to know what our immediate reactions to W's speech were. I told her that I was impressed with the number of issues he raised and addressed that affect each of our daily lives, but all that was definitely under the umbrella of protection. Without a President that cares about protecting our Country, there may not BE a tomorrow for the discussion of all the issues. The bad guys plot and plan for our demise, and thank goodness we have a President that believes in peace through strength.

It was FUN! Hubby and I plan out what we are going to say before we get to these functions, because we seem to always be interviewed, and you don't want to stumble when presenting a case for our dear President. It is TOO important to re-elect W, and we must all work hard, and think about how we can best sell our message of the Republican philosophy--nothing beats it, and no one shall beat W in this next election.

Volunteer to walk your precincts...it only takes a couple hours on a Saturday to find out what you'll be doing, a few hours to go to only your Republican neighbor's houses and pass out literature and urge them to vote (and that way, you get to find out who, in your neighborhood you can TALK to ;-), and a couple of hours on Election Day to see if your neighbors voted, and then urge those that didn't to get to the polls - it being SO important. VERY easy, and you feel soooo good afterwards...like you made a difference!

Other than a lurking headache and the almost uncontrollable urge to clean, OK! :-) I'm not complaining about the cleaning urge--it might not ever happen again!--it's just really strange for me.

Got some new fish for the aquarium today and hope they live. We got it for our son at Christmas and it was doing really well, then we had about one fish die every day for a few days, and unfortunately several died while he was gone so it was on MY watch. Luckily, fish are cheap! At least the ones I got.

HOpe things have settled down at your house. Are you still tired from your weekend with Brandon?

People like that are so comfortable with the President because he puts them at ease.

Some of you may recall that a couple of years ago one of our part-time employees had the opportunity to hear the President speak. He was in Charlotte to talk about programs to help people move from welfare to work. Our employee's full-time job was with an agency that helped people do just that. The lady who got to introduce the President was one of the people who had entered the program as a single mom on welfare and had worked through the program and at the time was working for the agency .... quite an accomplishment on her part under difficult circumstances.

I spoke with our employee later and she said that one of the things that most impressed her was how the President obviously cared about people ..... and how he had made such an effort to put the lady who was to introduce him at ease. She was, understandably, a nervous wreck but the President joked with her and reached out to her and she did a great job when it was time for the introduction.

It was very similar circumstances to the one in this picture you referenced.

Actually sometimes I think a pure white shirt is too stark with some of his ties. Did you see in the Q&A of Bartlett yesterday someone asked him how he decided what to wear? The reply was that he decides, several other weigh in, and the First Lady probably has input too. :-) One of my favorite pictures of the two of them together is when she's straightening his tie before he goes out and gives the speech after he was declared president. It's a black and white picture, in the capitol building in Texas.

And yes, I agree that Laura looks better and better every day.

Yes, I agree about his SOTU last night. It was a different tone than he's taken before, showing how confident he is that the courses he's taken have proven right. He spoke as a man vindicated and more sure-footed.

He is bolstering the enervated American mind in its understanding of true leadership.

THANK you for forgiving me, Gretchen!

(So THERE, admiral........Gretchen's NICER than you are!)

But seriously, folks.......our youngest daughter's Social Studies (Government) teacher asked her to bring in our tape of the SoTU for the class to watch...

Her response was, of course, YES, to which she added, "My Mom has EVERY word George W. Bush has ever said on tape!"

(She's right........hehe)
