FRESNO - California's political odd couple kicked off their campaign to pass a $15 billion bond on the March ballot, stressing that the state faces ``Armageddon cuts'' if voters reject it.
Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democratic Controller Steve Westly appeared in a town hall-style meeting at Duncan Ceramics in an industrial part of east Fresno to stump for the bond and a companion measure that would limit state spending.

Armageddon cuts, eh? Sounds good to me! Maybe they'll cut the funding for the gun registry, or discretionary CCW issuance, or deliver a body blow to the prison guards' union or the school administration bureaucracy. Or perhaps they'll stop handing out millions of dollars in grants to cities building bike trails, like San Jose.

Proposition 57, the bond, would allow California to pay off existing debt. My, how times have changed. I remember back when bonds were debt. Sounds like California'll never have to pay those bonds back, huh?

CUTS! CUTS! CUTS!
To: NormsRevenge
The trouble with these cuts is you know they want go after the worthless administrators, prison guards, money for illegals, etc.
They'll shut down libraries, won't build/repair roads, etc.

If the measures do not pass, the cash-strapped state ``will have to make drastic cuts, huge cuts,'' Schwarzenegger said. ``I call them the Armageddon cuts -- cuts in services that we don't want to make. It will be devastating.'' Funny I thought that most voted for Schwarzenegger in the hope that he would make these "devastating" cuts.
I'm neither surprised nor disappointed in his present posture. It was predictable from the moment of his first, informal press conference on the steps of the Santa Monica courthouse when he indicated his aim to shore up "our programs".

I'm looking forward to voting no on the bond, and eagerly await these "armageddon cuts."
How much you want to bet things like fire protection get cut, but worthless trash like "Ethnic Studies" programs at the state universities keep on with full funding?

Hey, if fear worked to get him elected, why not try it again to bait us into structurally higher spending?

"Armageddon cuts??" How cool. Arnold would make President Bush look like a big government wimp if he has to make big budget cuts. That's a big reason to vote "NO" on all the bonds in March.

I say "go for it" on the cuts.
But you're right, they always try to choose the things to cut they think will freak out middle class voters, like the prison guards and libraries. Could they roll back the millions in new social spending that just went into effect over the last Davis term? Oh, nooooo. They're so transparently manipulative trying to get their way.

They will but I prefer even bad cuts to no cuts. Its a once in a lifetime chance to permanently shrink down state government and destroy the Democratic Party's dreams of building a Sweden on the Pacific.
