I believe that either party would rise to the challenge of national defense, frankly. I think it is hyperbole to claim that a Dem in the WH would result in us losing the WoT. The Dems did satisfactorily during WWII, and I believe WWI as well. A more relevent example of current Democratic wartime leadership would be Vietnam or Kosovo. Comparing contemporary Democrats to those of the WWII or WWI era is about as fitting as comparing them to Confederates.
Its a question of desire and resolve. Most Democrats have neither when it comes to fighting terrorism, to say nothing of potentially dire threats like North Korea or Iran. The very thought of Dean, Kerry or Clark trying to negotiate with Kim Jong Il makes me shudder.

The very thought of Carter handing over satchels of greenbacks to some NorKorCom, by which he got his Nobel Peace Prize, makes me retch.

I think Clinton in Somalia sums it up! I can imagine of a nightmare of a Gore/Taliban ceasefire in Tehran in 2001.
