WINDSOR LOCKS (AP) - Bradley International Airport was evacuated Tuesday after authorities discovered a "cutting instrument" inside a concourse, police said.

Travelers were evacuated onto the street and airport officials said they would ensure travelers made it to their destinations. There was no immediate word on whether flights were canceled.

State police spokesman Sgt. J. Paul Vance said a cleaning crew found the cutting instrument in a women's restroom on the airport's new concourse, which opened last year.

"There was absolutely no threat whatsoever," Vance said. "It was a discovery, and as result of that discovery we instituted the plans we have in place.

We're not going to open it until we're absolutely certain it's safe." Bradley, located about 20 miles north of Hartford, is the largest regional airport between Boston and New York.

Left behind by a trade doing some work, no doubt. I doubt terrorists accidentally leave behind their weapons.

If there was no threat, why was the airport evacuated?

Strange days we live in.

Someone running with scissors again?

Probably nail clippers, but they were the BIG ones designed for toe nails...

Lurked,

30 years ago as a preteen a friend had access to a Cessna 180 on Amphibious floats. We took off from the water, flew to Bradley and landed, then taxied to the concourse and parked next the jets.

We got out, went in a door that led upstairs to a soda fountain. The pilot I was flying with, was probably after one of the girls behind working the counter.

My how times have changed......

No doubt! :-) Watch out for running with leadpencils, too! You could put somebody's eye out!

Or it could simply have been some lady had forgotten that she had it on her when she reached the airport. The quickest and easiest thing to do is to go in the bathroom and throw it away. Trying to give it up to security would just make you miss your flight as they interrogated you.

Can you now institute the plan to deal with absurd over-reaction, Sgt. Vance?

"There was absolutely no threat whatsoever,"

I like to think I am more mature and self-controlled but if I had been there and we were evacuated because of a box cutter, there might well have been a threat.

Unlikely as to an old lady. She would have been thuroughly strip searched and interrogated before being allowed to enter the concorse!

What's the alternative?

(rhetorical:) Say you knew about the "cutting instrument" and many people died. How would you feel then?
